If you insist you want W10 and are looking for ways to (apparently) cut down on Micro$haft's spying, check this out:

(PS: I'm not using it, since I have no W10, but others might be interested...)

Thanks for the tip. I have two machines running Windows 7 Pro and two machines running Windows 10 Pro.

Microsoft reports that over 400,000,000 copies of Windows 10 have been downloaded. Their source so I don't know the accuracy, but I don't know how anyone else could possibly know that information.

My point is, with this many copies of anything, how could a corporation or huge group of people go through the information generated by this many users in a multitude of languages to find any one piece of information about a user? It's a serious question because I honestly don't know and can't fathom that much data from that many users.

I have my Windows 10 machines locked down as much as the OS will allow short of pulling the plug on the internet altogether. So far, I have not heard of any stories of user's problems of Microsoft, Federal agencies, or other nefarious entities using any data generated through the use of Windows 10 to worry very much anymore about it. I still have that little shred of doubt in the back of my mind though that my computer is constantly communicating, or trying to communicate with the Mother Ship.

So is the threat of any sort of damage from anyone in an official capacity that might have access to this data still as viable a threat as we first thought it was after we found out about MS's shenanigans?

Amen!

For this same reason, we will be using Win7 until support ends in 2020...

For me it will probably be beyond that depending on "Zero Day" exploits and performance.

If it were people culling through all that information I'd say don't worry. But it's not. It's computers...large numbers of powerful servers that can near instantaneously pick through unlimited amounts of data based on all sorts of criteria.

Here's a list of programs that purportedly defeat intrusion:
