successful windows 10 upgrade from Win8.1 on 15" widescreen T60

#1 Post by gordor » Thu Jul 30, 2015 5:56 pm

I just upgraded my 15" 1680/1080 ATI 7200 64bit T60 8744-58U from win8.1 to windows 10. Did a full image beforehand but the upgrade went flawless. All drivers found no missing problems on device manager. Did have to use the ATI 1400 driver from Vista64bit to get full screen utilization and a good looking font and good on screen shapes. After trying the new start button I will keep my Start8 replacement for start. I also turned off several of the Win10 security problems that others have recommended. The W500 heatsink and fan #42X5115 seems to have finally resolved our two T60 overheating problems. :D

I had to install the Vista ATI 1400 display adapter driver to get the full 1680X1080 screen resolution. Lenovo does not have this listed as a Windows 10 driver but it works better than the Win10 default. This driver 8.383.1.1 is posted on this forum under drivers T60 in Vista.

I ran into the power off power on black screen problem that first showed up in Win8.1.
these two URLs showed me how to get it taken care of. I think it was the fast boot change that really did it. Recommend try that first.
