T60 with Win 10 Pausing on Thinkpad Logo

#1 Post by themeone » Sun Aug 23, 2015 1:31 pm

Apologies if this has already come up, but I couldn't find anything.

I installed Windows 10 on my T60 a while back on a machine that dual boots Linux. I dual boot using the Windows BCD bootloader.

Everything's fine apart from one problem - when I start the machine it pauses for much longer than before on the ThinkPad logo (where you also see Intel at the top right of the screen). This pause used to be really short before Windows 10, but now it's around 90 seconds.

If anyone has any thoughts, I'd be glad to hear them.

I may know what is happening during this 90 seconds, but first please do a simple test for me. Whenever you start your machine next time, press Esc when ThinkPad logo is shown. All you have to observe is memory size indicator - does it counts up ? If yes you have your answer - every single time when you resume your T60 from hybrid hibernation BIOS is testing your memory modules - at least thats what is happening to my X61s. I haven't had free time to find solution for that but I can bet that your machine is affected by exact same problem.

Yes you're right, it's doing a memory count, which it obviously used not to.

I've been into the BIOS and it's set to quick boot, and extended memory test is disabled, but somehow the machine is taking no notice.

I've also now done a BIOS update but annoying it hasn't made any difference.

I won't be able to test it by myself till friday so if you have some free time please try to disable hybrid shutdown(hibernation)/quick start function and then check few times boot-screen timings.

I had disabled the hybrid shutdown, but unfortunately the boot up is still the same.

I also tested changing Quick Boot to Diagnostics in the BIOS, just in case their function had somehow got reversed, but it had no effect.

Not sure what else to try really.
