Pervasive Windows 10 files installed on Windows 7/8.x

#1 Post by UMPC2024 » Fri Sep 11, 2015 11:13 pm

Read an article today about Windows 10 that said Windows 10 files (around 6GB worth) were being downloaded onto Windows 7/Windows 8.x machines with automatic updates turned on. Link to PCWorld article .There's a command at the bottom of the article to remove the installed files. Don't know if it works.

Has this happened to anybody? I turned off updates to preserve the Windows 7 experience.

I would not turn off updates altogether. There will be useful/important updates for Win7/8.x for years to come.

The path I would take would be to selectively avoid the specific updates having to do with Win10 upgrade preparation, as outlined in the thread below:

You can find these updates in the list, right click each and choose "hide update". It will not be installed then. If they are already installed, first uninstall them from the Add/Remove Programs interface, then do another search for updates. They will be found again, at which point you can hide them.
