Fingerprint Logon Failing

#1 Post by ArtShapiro » Thu Dec 31, 2015 8:47 pm

Since installation of the newish 11032 build a couple weeks ago, I can't use fingerprint logon on my T500.

I've deleted and recreated the fingerprints, and this seems to be administered by Windows rather than any Lenovo software. I think this is a change form before, and perhaps is relevant to the issue.

Any advice out there?

Do you actually managed to make an T400/500 fingerprint to work in W10 ? Somehow I cannot manage Windows Hello to appear in control panel/accounts/logon options. And as far as I have noticed W7 fingerprint software do not affect W10 login options. Thats hillarious coz my x61ses fingerprint reader works perfectly fine.

Yes, it was working exceptionally well, unlike my other Thinkpads with fingerprint logon which tended to be really unreliable.

Can you tell is which rev. of drivers and software have you used on your T500 ? Does it work with Microsoft Hello functionality ? And if it does how did you set it up to enable Hello functionality - as much as I know there have been plenty of reports that T400/500 fingerprint readers chip is not supported by Windows 10.

I have noticed that new fingerprint logon implemented in W10 does not utilise fingerprint database stored on your machine, but keeps using software data collected during Hello setup. I did managed to configure x61s to work with Windows Hello, and when I installed SSD from x61s into x220 it worked perfectly fine at 1st scan without any need of reconfiguration.

I can't tell you what works without restoring a pre-update image from Windows Home Server, which I'm reluctant to do.

What isn't working: Device manager cites Authen Tec Inc. drivers 3.4.2.71 dated from 8/3/2012.

I have a hunch that Windows has usurped some working Lenovo drivers. Prior to this Build 11082 update, the T500 was working better than any Thinkpad fingerprint logon I've had; normally they are irritatingly balky. Right now my only other fingerprint-capable Thinkpad is the sporadically-used X61; I should see if that machine is behaving acceptably and see what drivers it is using.

I have to confess being completely unfamiliar with "Windows Hello".

UPDATE: The X61 is also now failing.
