T420 touchpad issue Windows 10

#1 Post by libardoni » Fri Mar 04, 2016 2:20 pm

hi everybody

I have a T420 and yesterday the touchpad buttons stopped working.
Both the ultranav and the touchpad are gone, sometimes the left touchpad button works. Plug a mouse in and it works, so I thought it was hardware related.
Today mouse stopped working, so I thought to have some bad software issue.
Format my PC, and USBs are gone, touchpad buttons doesn-t work even after redownloading driver from lenovo website.

Tried to put on a live linux distro, and everything works flawless.

Any idea of what-s happening (qustion mark) sorry I don-t know where punteggiatur is on the keyboard right now.

Thank for your help

Marco

Did you receive any recent upgrades to the Windows 10 OS?
Have you checked the device manager to see if the drivers still work?

That's all I got.

Found missing chipset driver. That should solve the usb issue and let me work with an external mouse. Then I am going to figure out what's happening with touchpad

Ok now external mouse works. Any idea about the fail of ultranav and touchpad in the same moment? Could be motherboard related? Should I buy a new keybord just to try if ultranav works or there is another way to find that out?

So just to be clear, you went to the device manager and there were yellow exclamation points? Did you then proceed to reinstall the drivers from the Lenovo support site or use the Windows "update driver" option?
By purchasing another keyboard do you mean the one that's on your T420 or an external one? You could probably get an external one for cheaper than an FRU replacement and I don't think it's the physical keyboard that's the issue, it's just that Windows 10 is notorious for failed drivers on the T420 and many other machines. I'm no Windows 10 expert though, anyone else care to chime in?
