Stupid problem need help
Stupid problem need help
I installed win10 but it wouldn't keep up with the upgrades. Then i noticed that i had actually installed 32 bit and not 64 bit os. To add to that, because i had formatted drive, i lost original recovery sector with factory installed os.
Help what can I do1

Re: Stupid problem need help
Hi
Have you activated Windows 10 or digitally signed W10 to the 32 bit system?
If the answer is yes then you should be ok to do a clean install of Windows 10 64 bit.
You will need to stick to the Home or Pro edition but as I am aware this is certainly possible.
You don't need to enter any COA data because your motherboard is already digitally signed to Windows 10.
A clean install is relatively easy and with most Thinkpads you will be up and running quickly.
Your best bet is to download the 64 bit ISO and install to a USB drive. I also downloaded a 32 bit ISO but that's because I have too many Thinkpads laying around.
Before you start make sure you have a copy of latest drivers for your hardware and backup any data to another drive.
When I did it I deleted my recovery drive as I have a backup of my original Windows 7 but regardless I would delete the recovery drive.
Goodluck

WELL...FIRST, YOU NEED TO GET THE 64BIT VERSION DOWNLOADED ..THAT MUCH IS OBVIOUSchs117 wrote:I installed win10 but it wouldn't keep up with the upgrades. Help what can I do1
SECOND, INSTALL THE DARN THING AND BE DONE WITH YOUR PROBLEM
THIRD, DOWNLOAD ANY 7 , 8 , OR 10 YOU NEED FROM MICROSOFT, BURN IT TO A DVD OR USB STICK
USE YOUR KEY WHEN REINSTALLING IT
THERE THAT WAS SIMPLE ENOUGH...
Re: Stupid problem need help
Google will help you get what you need
Yes get your Windows ISO version from Microsoft
Use Rufus to create a USB bootable drive
For Windows 10 I think you can download a Media Creation tool. There are 2 ways to do it you can download the ISO or just insert the USB and it will create it for you.
On the Lenovo website enter your Model no. eg T400 and it should direct you to the drivers
You will probably be up and running without drivers from Lenovo as Microsoft will provide mostly what you need depending on your setup.
The main driver I needed was Power Manager but you should be able to fill in these gaps after the install.
If you have an SSD you won't need Active Protection software etc.
Do you use Access Connections well probably not?
Do you use the Trackpoint or trackpad?

Use the Media Creation Link from Microsoft
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows10
Click on Upgrade to Windows and see first if it will do 64-bit and second if it will do driver updates. If it gets this far, click on Keep Nothing to do a fresh install.
Check if you are really running 32-bit. If so, you have no option but to format and start over.
You cannot just download any Windows 7 OS from Microsoft and use it with your OEM key. This normally does not work and is not in compliance with Microsoft licensing.
So if the MCL above won't get you to 64-bit, you will need Recovery DVD's from Lenovo. You should be able to get them inexpensively.
