It is just another Lenovo crappy software. Similar issue is with all 3rd party "updater" software that runs without control. The most known is the Google Updater spyware (included in Chrome malware and other spying products made by Google to survive) that is almost non-removable by users without advanced computer skills. Running under LOCAL SYSTEM account it takes control of your machine and all local account's data.

There were already similar issues with Mozilla Updater (included in Firefox/Thundebird). The difference is that user can easily remove it and the installation is optional only.

I am sure Adobe Updater (included with Adobe Reader) has similar bug either, just have not been discovered yet.

There is no connection with Windows 10, it can happen on any Windows version.

Shoot, this will affect my X61T!
I will look to make sure I don't get this crud software on it.
Accelerator just sounds like bloat/scamware.

Can't believe so many multinational companies use software that looks like its been thrown together by some 16yr old intern.

If you had said "privacy hole", I could have agreed, but your claim as it is is definitely wrong. Every Windows OS has a tendency to be more secure than the former, not less. :)

Just in case no one read the article:
ZDNet Article wrote:Lenovo ThinkPad and ThinkStation devices are not affected by this security issue.
Translation: It's not bundled on Think systems, only standard Lenovo systems. If you haven't installed it manually then there's nothing to worry about here.

Here is a full list of affected systems: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/produc ... y/len_6718
ThinkStation P700 · C20 | ThinkPad P40 · 600
