W530 incommunicado under W10 1607

#1 Post by Non-Thinker » Fri Mar 31, 2017 9:17 pm

I upgraded my W530 from Win7Pro to Win10Pro/1607, and most everything worked fine, including both wireless and wired network connections, once I updated a few drivers. Then I went to Hong Kong, where everything continued to work great. But when I got home both wireless and wired connections failed, with the error message of "Invalid IP configuration" or something similar. [Insert bad joke about surveillance in China here.] So I can't connect to anybody anywhere to update or to download anything that might help find the problem. While I'm at it, I can mention that the speaker has never worked, although the headphone jack puts out great sound.

So, is there anything I can d/l on another computer and transfer to my W530 via USB portable drive and then find out what to do?

Or, is this problem just one of resetting some parameter again?

thanks for any help!

In your case, try removing the wifi-card driver first in Device Manager, then reboot.
Windows should reinstall drivers.
If that doesn't work, remove it again, as well as the wifi-card, then reboot.
You should have no wifi now.
In the meantime, on another machine download the free Malwarebytes and copy that onto your W530, then run it.

I'd be highly suspicious of you having picked up some drive-by China-Malware.
And of course I don't trust W10 either.

Thanks very very much! I removed every network card there was, rebooted, and was online and getting online nags before I even knew it was booted up.

I also ran malwarebytes, but it found only Yontoo, which just adds advertisements to my browser. Removed it too.

This is all great, and I'm almost up to where I was with Win7, but I can't find a way to turn the WiFi radio on and off. The WiFi connection may be broken, but the little light for radio remains on all the time. Any ideas? Any special Lenovo package to d/l? I'd also like to have my speakers back, also my fingerprint log-in.

Thanks again!
