numlock on bitlocker thinkpad L570

#1 Post by vanger_44 » Mon Jul 17, 2017 2:48 am

Hi,
ik have several thinkpad L570 (windows 10) encrypted with bitlocker.
these laptops are all configured to unlock bitlocker with pin code.

my problem is : numlock is behaving differently at startup depending on laptop.
how can i trigger numlock to be ON before entering pincode on keypad.

there are no numlock settings in uefi bios 1.20

regards,

vanger

Welcome to the Forum.

Trust Lenovo to come up with all kinds of stupid and/or different NumLock options.
(And Micro$haft is not much better either...)
Enable/Disable NumLock: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht104902

If you have NO NumLock: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht501660
Windows 10

Go to Start , then select Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard, and then move the slider under On-Screen Keyboard.

A keyboard appears on the screen, click “Options” and check “Turn on numeric keypad” and click “OK”.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

thanks for quick reply,

sorry, i think i didn't make myself clear,

i have the numlock button on the numeric keypad, but i need to understand why some of my l570 have numlock auto ON at startup (before entering pin code bitlocker) and why some l570 have numlock OFF at startup
they all have the same bios version and the same configuration?

thanks,

vanger

I would suspect those W10 settings.

they are all windows 10 pro,

changing ‘InitialKeyboardIndicators', 0, 2 or 2147483650 makes no difference, together with disable 'fast boot' makes no difference??

all my l570 have the same configs; some have numlock on at startup some have numlock off??? (at startup means unlock page bitlocker)

you gotta love win 10 pro....???

any other idea would be appreciated.

Any other idea? Sure, dump W10!
Sorry, can't help you here, don't have (and never will have) W10.

Maybe compare if NumLock is On or Off when you switch off the different machines.
W10 might keep On or Off in memory.
Or someone is spying on you and changes settings haphazardly, just to annoy you...

Would an external USB Numberpad work with your BitLocker in Win10 Pro?
A cumbersome workaround is better than no workaround...

Just bouncing crazy ideas around...not even sure if it would work?
