Uninstall non-existant power manager PWMTR64V.DLL?
I rarely cold boot my system, so I have no idea what change (a Win10 update patch or a Lenono patch presumably) did this, but now every time it cold boots I get a bogus error message in a pop-up window:
There was a problem starting C:\Program Files (x86)\Thinkpad\Utilities\PWMTR64V.dll
The specified module could not be found. [OK]
Well, I say bogus because there is no mention of this file in the registry. There is no mention of it, or the power manager, in the msconfig startups. And the one reference to power management in Services is set to disabled.
So nothing legitimate should be trying to START those services.
Lenono says to reinstall Power Manager and then delete it from the control panel, that should clean it all out. Nope. It won't reinstall, presumably because a Win10 update UNinstalled it as incompatible and isn't allowing it back in.
So, how do I find the vampire and put a stake in its heart?! What do I need to find and rip out?

Thanks, that did it.
Funny that there's nothing in the startup, or the registry, that is more obviously running that task.
Is there some new way things can get run in Windows, or is this just the way services are invisibly (not)working?

The actual service is probably PWMDBSVC.exe that is trying to load that DLL.

I'll have to go looking for that. The error message came back from the dead!

Is this the service described only as "Lenovo PM service" is the msconfig list of services? Manufacturer is shown as Lenovo, as opposed to the "Power Manager" shown to be from Microsoft.

It's shown as just "Power Manager Service" when running.hellosailor wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2017 7:54 pmIs this the service described only as "Lenovo PM service" is the msconfig list of services? Manufacturer is shown as Lenovo, as opposed to the "Power Manager" shown to be from Microsoft.

Re: Uninstall non-existant power manager PWMTR64V.DLL?
I'm trying to ensure the service is deleted from the startups, using MSCONFIG.
That has no bearing on how the service is "shown" when it is running.
That's why I'm trying to check the name of the service(s) to see if they are one and the same but being referenced differently.
There's no "Power Manager Service" or any similar name shown as a running service supplied by Lenovo. And you can only stop or disable services, not remove them, from the normal service controls.

No specific knowledge of this, but: have you checked the Task Scheduler? That's another place nuisance programs sneak into the running system.

Re: Uninstall non-existant power manager PWMTR64V.DLL?
I think I owe you a cigar. I'll for certain after I get a chance to restart, but sure enough, the *stard was in there and set to run at every user logon.
I know, I have the only Lenono Win7 system that was ever updated to Win10, that's why no one on this planet ever reported the error and no one ever corrected it (cleaned that out when they ripped out the power manager itself) before.
Got to put another post-it note on the computer, to check the task scheduler when there are signs that evil elves have been in the system...

Hi, I'm a bit of novice but what did you actually remove from the "Task Scheduler"? I couldn't see that in your post below. I'm having the same issue on my T510. Thanks.

Re: Uninstall non-existant power manager PWMTR64V.DLL?
I wasn't the one having the problem, so I don't know for sure what he deleted or disabled to successfully avoid the problem. But if you expand the "Task Scheduler Library" item under "Task Scheduler (Local)", most of the entries are fairly self=descriptive. It should be reasonably obvious (famous last words) if you're actually having the issue.
