System Update fails to install WLAN driver

#1 Post by pgoelz » Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:06 am

Thinkpad X1C, gen 3, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Win10 15063.540

For some reason, Lenovo System Update repeatedly fails to install the WLAN driver for the Intel AC7265 card. Every time I run System Update, it sees the currently installed version 19.51.0.4, downloads and (it claims) installs version 19.70.0 and then tells me to reboot. However, after reboot I am still on 19.51.0.4. When I run System Update again, it once again tries to download and update but after the reboot I am still on 19.51.0.4.

Unlike another thread on a similar issue, OTHER updates found by System Update DO get installed correctly.

I would not stress about this too much, but I am seeing some some small networking quirks while running RDP and I am hoping a driver update might fix it.

Anyone have any words of wisdom?

You need to find the hardware IDs of the WLAN, then go into Group Policy Editor and tell W10 to keep its effing mitts of that driver!

MOVED to W10 Forum.
