W10 1809 - X250 - Issue
W10 1809 - X250 - Issue
According to the information provided here https://support.lenovo.com/de/de/solutions/ht507291
my X250 should be eligible for the installation of the mentioned Windows update.
The prerequisite mentioned there is having Intel® Graphics Driver version 24.20.100.6286 or newer installed.
The installed driver version for the Intel HD Graphics on my X250 is 20.19.15.49634,
which is also the latest version available for download from Lenovo.
Trying to update the driver using the "intel Driver and Support Assistant" indicates, that this can't be done,
because the installed version is a manufacturer specific one. It is recommended to get a newer version from the manufacturer.
As there is none available from Lenovo, I seem to be stuck now.

Download it from Intel's site directly and see what happens.

Re: W10 1809 - X250 - Issue
The X240 is (officially) not supported on the Lenovo list for W10/1809.
For test-purposes I downloaded a (free) ISO with W10 1809, which I installed on a USB stick.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows10
I used the option: Using the tool to create....
I wanted to W10-test an X240 which had its clunkpad replaced with an X250 Synaptics touchpad+buttons.
So I put a blank SSD in that X240, then plugged in the USB3.0-stick with 1809 and installed W10-1809.
It took less than 10 minutes!
I didn't let it go online, so no further updates.
I then killed Cortana and switched off all that other spyware.
And everything (I needed) in W10 worked OOTB, including the X250 touchpad+buttons without any Lenovo drivers!
Mission accomplished.
Removed the W10-SSD and put the W7-SSD back in.

Re: W10 1809 - X250 - Issue
Hm, that's odd. My T430 has been running W10 1809 fine for a while now (received as a normal "feature" update) and my Intel HD Graphics driver is version 10.18.10.4425.
EDIT - please disregard the post, this issue is probably X-series specific.

I tried the following downloads:Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 10:57 pmDownload it from Intel's site directly and see what happens.
- Version with number ending 5085: can't be installed as the driver was not validated for the hardware which was modified by the manufacturer (Lenovo). This is (by the way) the most recent version available for Intel Core CPUs from 5th generation, which is included in the X250. It's number also does not satisfy the prerequisite version (6286) mentioned above for Win 10 1809.
- Version with number ending 6286: can't be installed because the minimum hardware requirement (Intel Core CPUs 6th generation or newer) is not fulfilled.
I contacted Lenovo now. During a first long support session the problem could not be resolved. I am not waiting to be contacted again with the results of their further research.

Re: W10 1809 - X250 - Issue
Why don't you make a backup of your personal data, then wipe the HDD/SSD and install 1809 from scratch, like I did?
Afterwards copy/install your personal data back in.
Plus add whatever Lenovo drivers (you think) you may need.
Or use a spare drive to test this out first.

Re: W10 1809 - X250 - Issue
I will consider this once I have got feedback to my ticket from Lenovo. I don't have an immediate need for update, so can wait, but want to be sure for the longer term, that I can still apply the Windows updates.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Thu Feb 14, 2019 6:48 amWhy don't you make a backup of your personal data, then wipe the HDD/SSD and install 1809 from scratch, like I did?

Re: W10 1809 - X250 - Issue [SOLVED]
UPDATE:
After a long wait to my big surprise today I was offered to install Windows 10 1903! The update was done without any problems.
Until now I have had the impression that the version installed (1803) was kind of "end of life" for my X250, as there has been a warning displayed for several weeks in the Windows Update function about the end of support for that version.
[EDIT] After the upgrade - which, by the way, was not "offered" but a forced installation - I coincidentally read in a computer magazine, that Microsoft obviously has just started to initiate a forced upgrade on all machines siill having version 1803 installed. Now I wonder, what actually had prevented the earlier installation of 1809 (and 1903) on my X250, although everything seems to work fine after the forced upgrade.

Re: W10 1809 - X250 - Issue
We also own X250, and it's fully compatible with the latest Win10 updates!
There is no "end of life" for X250 with regards to Win10 from what we know.
X250 (and X1C3**) was introduced just months before Win10 came out.
After Win10 was inroduced, we believe that X250 units were sold with Win10**.
And dare we suggest that there might be X250 Product Recovery thumbsticks with Win10 also.
(Unfortunately our X250 was bought with Win8 preinstalled, so we were not allowed to procure the X250 Win10 Product Recovery thumbstick).

Note: ** Why would we say this?
We owned 2 units of X1C3 (sold in the same year and same sales cycle as X250, just months before Win10 came out.)
One of our X1C3 was factory-installed with Win8 (since it was bought before Win10 came out).
Our 2nd unit of X1C3 bought near the end of its sales cycle was factory-installed with Win10.
The implication?
We have in our hands the X1C3 Product Recovery thumbstick with Win10.

Re: W10 1809 - X250 - Issue
As part of the above mentioned support exercise with Lenovo they gave me the strong advice to NOT install version 1809 for compatibility reasons (it was months after the initial problems with that version). I don't recall the detailed reasons, and I had not further pursued on the issue then.
