Windows 10 PIN
Windows 10 PIN
Hi Folks,
I just got a T490S.
It's only slightly larger and thicker than my wife's X1 Carbon 2018 6th generation.
Quite a step up from my first Thinkpad, an A30P!
My recent computer is an X201T running Windows 7.
Generally, all devices are turned off here overnight.
I would like to be able to start the T490S running Windows 10 without having to
enter a PIN, do a fingerprint scan or other login procedure.
What do I need to change to make this happen?
Also, with the X201T I can hit Fn F4 and it goes to sleep.
How is this done on a T490S?
Thanks and good health, Weogo

Re: Windows 10 PIN
My first thought is to just remove any password from the account. You should be able to do that from ctrl+alt+delete after logging in, and reset password. Don't enter a new password where it asks.

Re: Windows 10 PIN
Thanks, but I don't see how this will stop Windows 10 from asking me for a PIN number, or other login credential.

Windows Key + R
Type in " netplwiz " without the quotes
Turn off the check box at the top, click apply, and it will ask for the current user name and password. Enter the credentials you want to auto-sign in.
Try a restart and see if it works, I usually disable the PIN if I do this, as it sometimes doesn't seem to want to work.
Also doing it this way will allow you to keep a password for different reasons, but still allow the computer to sign in automatically. Hope this helps.
Edit: just saw the rest of your post, my T450s doesnt appear to have a sleep key, would be interested in knowing if I'm overlooking it myself. I assume its the same layout as the T490? I just have my power key set to hibernate as well as lid close action.

Re: Windows 10 PIN
Hi Y'all,
What worked was changing from an online login to a local login, and following these instructions found online:
To switch to a local account from a Microsoft account on Windows 10, use these steps:
Open Settings.
Click on Accounts.
Click on Your info.
Click the Sign in with a local account instead option.
Type your current Microsoft account password.
Click the Next button.
Type a new name for your account.
Create a new password.
For the last step, don't enter a password and the computer boots right in to Windows.
Thanks and good health, Weogo
