Think MS denotes this as:
Year 2020, Month 04
Hence "2004"
Year 2020, Month 04
Hence "2004"

Yep. Just put a fresh copy of windows 2004 on an ACER laptop on a new SSD. Seems to work ok. The downloading is getting better. Its direct from Msoft and 32 and 64bit together on the same USB it just needed an ei.cfg file to get the correct Home version installed and activated.

It says that ms issued a "compatibility block" on 9 of the 10 major issues. WTF is a "compatibility block", is it a sw switch in the winblows update that will stop the normally forced auto install of updates for some reason?
Blocks on realtek, synaptics audio, intel integrated graphics... Isn't that about half of the ThinkPads ever made???

I think it means those flagged devices don't have updated drivers that are compatible with Windows 10 release 2004, thus it's preventing the update from installing.cadillacmike68 wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 8:13 pmIt says that ms issued a "compatibility block" on 9 of the 10 major issues. I am on a roll here after having put 2004 on an Acer I upgraded my T520 to 2004 from 1809. Once again it went smoothly and even more surprisingly every thing works.
Having seen the long list from MS of the issues I am very relieved and pleased too that I don't need to roll back.

Re: Hold your horses: W10 uses 2004 updates in 2020 and as usual screws you over...
I've had no problems whatsover on a P43s nor an x201. Must be user error. P43s was an upgrade from 1909 and x201 was a clean install. The only thing that didnt work after install on the x201 was WIMAX driver was missing. I took a chance and went to the legacy driver site and downloaded the last one released and it installed fine. PowerManager, to get the battery charging threshold setttings, I cannot get to work but that was to be expected. If anyone can figure that out, it would be great.

Upgraded successfully, P50, P51, T430s, T430, P53, so all thinkpads I have are not affected. The most stubborn were the M2200, Xeon P51:s which required the media creation tool installer. Lenovo also publishes their experience on Windows 2004, I was not affected by anything listed over there.cadillacmike68 wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 8:13 pmIt says that ms issued a "compatibility block" on 9 of the 10 major issues. If you get the option to update using the Windows update means that your system IS NOT on the compatibility block list. T430s and T430 I use have the Nvidia 392.59, which is the last Quadro driver supporting NVS 5400. If you go with Geeforce driver you should be able to use an even newer driver.
If you want to upgrade old ATI equipped thinkpads like R61, T61p etc they do not officially support W10 and you could face driver issues with 2004. I also upgraded an old HP laptop with Sandy Bridge CPU and it also work s fine.

So does that mean the NVidia drivers for the G86 video cards found in the likes of T61 will have problems with W10 2004 as well? Well not bothering to update on my NVS135M Latitude D830 anyway.

Re: Hold your horses: W10 uses 2004 updates in 2020 and as usual screws you over...
We're shocked by the magnitude of the Windows Update 2004 bugs out there in the wild.
We're not merely being treated like guinea pigs; we are the guinea pigs
Yet another a (big) bug for W10 with "2004" Windows Update:
www.pcworld.com/article/3562784/windows ... paces.html
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help ... -to-window
"If you’re a fan of Windows 10’s Storage Spaces technology, Microsoft offered you a piece of advice on Wednesday: don’t update to the Windows 10 May 2020 Update yet.
...The nifty storage technology takes a collection of internal and external hard drives and/or SSDs and creates a shared “pool” of storage between them.
It essentially offers some RAID (Redundant Array of Disks) protections, mirroring content on one drive to another to help save it in case it fails.
...for those who still use them, you should hold off upgrading to the Windows 10 May 2020 Update.
Why? Because the May 2020 Update doesn’t properly recognize a Storage Space as an actual disk, showing up as RAW in Disk Manager and making it inaccessible.
Worse still, there’s no true workaround for this issue, Microsoft said in a support document today [June 17th, 2020].
Instead, Microsoft is offering a way to turn your Storage Spaces into essentially big old virtual DVD-ROMs for the time being, granting you read access to the Spaces but without the ability to write data."

Hey nikki605, if you are using SSD, perhaps you should:
1) Turn off Defragger altogether (only HDD needs it; SSD does not need it), and
2) Turn off Hibernation (it writes gigabytes of data onto your SSD every time your computer Hibernates).

Am always amazed at these sort of threads. I have Win10 running on 9 PC's at home and at work and have had zero issues. Upgrades? Nary a hiccup besides rebooting when they've installed at their own leisure. Must be good karma.

Sleep and hibernate are two different things.
There is also the "fast startup" or whatever they call in in 8.1 and 10. That writes a (smaller) Hibernate file Every time you shut it down. It can and probably should be disabled.

Micro$haft, stop feeding bugs to a billion Windows 10 users!
If anyone is interested, here's a current list of the "Known issues", at least of the ones M$ confesses to.
It is supposedly updated constantly (if you believe them) as 'old' bugs get squashed and more 'new' bugs raise their nasty heads.

Does WWAN (cellular mobile internet) work for anyone after the update to 2004? My EM7345 in ThinkPad 8 tablet won't connect so I had to revert back to 1909. But I admit the device is pretty outdated (no issues on my MateBook). I've read similar report for an outdated Dell laptop and Ericsson WWAN.

We have a few ThinkPads with mobile broadband (WWAN) running Win10.
We've been avoiding the Windows Update 2004 for the abovementioned issues,
and we'll rather that MS fixes these potential issues before we update.
Once we do a major Windows Update (end-summer or early-autumn), we'll report back
whether or not our WWAN works under Update 2004. Will keep you folks advised!

and we'll rather that MS fixes these potential issues before we update.
Once we do a major Windows Update (end-summer or early-autumn), we'll report back
whether or not our WWAN works under Update 2004. Will keep you folks advised!

Re: Hold your horses: W10 uses 2004 updates in 2020 and as usual screws you over...
Here's another screwup I got when I allowed the 2004 Win10(F**K)Update: I have a T440p fitted with the T450 3 button trackpad with group policy edit that has correctly blocked previous attempts by Microsoft to update my trackpad drivers. However, update 2004 over rode all that to install the latest driver for the T440p and leave me with non functional trackpoint buttons. WTF? I was able to go through the uninstall and reinstall process as so well described elsewhere in this forum and get full functionality back. Does this mean the group policy edits are ok until MS decides they aren't?
T430 ips, T440p.

Unfortunately updates that erase customized system settings is a known problem with Win10. Don't know if it's stupid or malicious, but it's annoying either way.

IMO it's plain incompetence on Microsoft's part. I've seen a major update lock out a password-protected Administrator-class account, leaving the standard user account with no way to change system settings.
Ended up booting Linux via external SSD and using chntpw to unlock it.
What I don't have though is a UEFI-bootable version of that Linux install, which makes things difficult on locked-down systems or those without CSM/BIOS legacy mode.
