Windows 10 Compatibility

Hi everyone!
After somewhat resolving some hardware issues with my W530, Windows 10 has become very buggy. After approximately one minute after booting up, the screen becomes unresponsive except for my cursor, which works perfectly fine. Thus, I am forced to hard restart every time this occurs. I am now using Windows 7, but I am finding it difficult to adjust. I have tried resetting the disk, reinstalling Windows and going back to a previous version of Windows. In the end, I swapped out my SSD for a spare which already had Windows 7 installed. Did anyone face this same problem?

Are you on the new 2004 version? Did you try installing an old version from scratch? And the symptoms are still the same?

Yes, I was using the 2004 version. However, I don't know how wipe my disk and start from scratch - as long as there is an operating system installed, I can't install a new one from my external hard drive. Symptoms remain the same. If I get lucky, I might be able to stretch the runtime to 5 minutes before everything freezes.

There has got to be a way to start an installer from external media and format the internal drive prior to installing the OS.

You could always format the drive using Diskpart from the command line under admin privileges. This will wipe out the drive and it will be as newly installed.

Or use a hirens boot CD Ultimate CD, etc., boot it and wipe the drive.

Acronis True Image has an "add new disk to system" function which essentially deletes all partitions and clears the MBR as well.

Aha! Thanks for the suggestions! I was actually supposed to press F12, not F8. I should have looked through the bios carefully. Pressing F12 enabled the boot menu, so I booted up from my external HDD, wiped my internal drive and installed windows. The down side was I lost all my files. Nonetheless, I'm just glad everything is working again
