t440s UEFI
I want do a format of win 10 to my thinkpad. I tryed to put UEFI only to my BIOS. If i do that, the pc reboot and not possible. I have to activate the BOTH choice and all ok.
What can i do, and how, to activate the uefi only mode, and continue the format procedure ?
Thanks.

Re: t440s UEFI
If you want to boot the OS in UEFI mode, you will need to reinstall the OS as a UEFI booting OS. There are extra partitions and so-forth required for that type of boot that don't get created otherwise.
If there is a way around that, I am not aware of it.

This is the problem.
Possibly i need to take out the dick of the pc, format it , and after put it back and install the win 10 from the usb.

Yes, there is, MBR2GPT: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... mbr-to-gpttheterminator93 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:09 amIf there is a way around that, I am not aware of it.

Yes, you can convert MBR to GPT, but GPT does not mean UEFI.

Re: t440s UEFI
When you deploy Windows to a UEFI-based device, you must format the hard drive that includes the Windows partition by using a GUID partition table (GPT) file system. Additional drives may use either the GPT or the master boot record (MBR) file format. So yes, MBR2GPT will solve the issue of the topic starter, who is unable to use UEFI only as his hdd is MBR format instead of GPT.theterminator93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 8:57 pmYes, you can convert MBR to GPT, but GPT does not mean UEFI.

Re: t440s UEFI
My point is that simply converting to GPT file system does not automatically enable UEFI, though the two do go hand-in-hand. The command line process described not only converts MBR to GPT, but also adds the EFI system partition and makes the BCD changes needed. These steps, combined, yield the desired effect.
FWIW, this does not work with 8.x or 7, even though those can be installed natively in UEFI modes.
