T430s/Mini Dock 3 - can I close laptop lid and still use external monitors ?

#1 Post by southof40 » Tue Aug 17, 2021 8:27 pm

I have a Mini Dock 3 which I use with a Thinkpad 430s running Windows 10 Pro.

I currently use the Thinkpad Screen and an external monitor connected via VGA. I also use an external keyboard attached to the Dock.

I want to buy another screen and plug that into the dock as well as the other monitor. My reading (page down to 'Three video ports') is that when I do that the laptop screen will be blank/disabled.

Because of the way my desk is setup it would be most convenient if I were able to close the lid on the Thinkpad - is that something I can persuade Windows 10 let me do while continuing to use the machine via the external keyboard/monitors ?

Thanks.

Set Windows to not suspend the laptop while the lid is closed:

That's excellent, thanks. I wasn't very optimistic as I had no idea that setting existed and i'm used to the machine hibernating when I close the lid.

Thanks again.
