windows 10 keeps installing synaptics mouse driver
windows 10 keeps installing synaptics mouse driver
I have switched of automatic driver installation and still, after system restart, which I do rather seldom, usually hibernating, the driver is installed again.
It inadvertently (settings ineffectual) replaces middle button functionality with its 'scroll' function which is no good.
After my removing the driver and restarting again, I can use middle button properly.
Any way to prevent this installation?
I am on

See my X240 post, section 9.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thank you. I have followed the instructions but ended up with synaptics installed again.
Could this have to do with the faulty gp editor - see errors?
Not sure why the pictures are not showing so here are their addresses. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Re: windows 10 keeps installing synaptics mouse driver
Your problem seems to be W10 Home.
In my link to Stop W10 from automatically updating SPECIFIC drivers.
it clearly states: Please note: this ONLY applies to users of Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise version.
But check the last post there by Fierelier.
That seems to apply to W10 Home.
Whether that works or not, no idea, since I don't (and never will) have W10.

Re: windows 10 keeps installing synaptics mouse driver
I overlooked your note on the w10 type, indeed.
As for Fierelier's comment, there appear to be no such entries in the regedit.
He mentions:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceInstall\Restrictions]
In my system, there is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection
followed immediately by
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\EnhancedStorageDevices
Anyone with W10Home managed to sort this out?

Re: windows 10 keeps installing synaptics mouse driver
So to sum up,
- enterprise/ultimate and some known Home solutions (Fierelier's) are not available
- do not automatically install setting is not doing the trick
There is just one thing that comes to mind: firewall. What would be the way to identify the channel/address that is reached out for synaptics drivers?
Or is it included in the windows update bulk?
Strangely, immediately after another forced update, when I reviewed widows update history, synaptics or mouse was not mentioned - under drivers or elsewhere.
Side note, this windows 10, it has lots of those irritating AI flaws. Thankfully, it does not drive cars yet
