The return of the inverted mouse pointer...

#1 Post by axur-delmeria » Wed Apr 06, 2022 4:01 am

Back when I used Windows 7, I had a yellow mouse pointer set that I got somewhere in the Internet. Now that I'm using Windows 10, I found that it was easy to lose track of the standard white mouse pointer, probably because of the flat color schemes that Windows 8 and later introduced.
Before trying to find that yellow cursor set again, I checked if Windows had something built-in that had high visibility. What I found was the "Windows Inverted" pointer scheme-- something that I haven't seen since my DOS days more than 20 years ago. :o

Basically, the pointer color is the inverse of the area its floating on-- it's black when the background is white, blue when the background is red, and orange against the bluish highlights of this forum. That makes the mouse pointer easily stand out no matter where it is in the screen.

I've been using Windows Standard (large) on most systems, which already makes things easier. On a whim, after reading your post, I've decided to give the Windows Inverted (large) scheme a try. Let's see how I like it after ~1 week. :)

main.cpl FTW!

I think that in the DOS days, the inverse-color mouse pointer was used in order to reduce RAM usage-- the pointer is generated programmatically (just XOR the color value to get its inverse) as opposed to moving around its bitmap .
