TrackPoint Scroll "Use As Middle Click" Windows 10

#1 Post by TPFanatic » Mon Jul 31, 2023 6:52 pm

Background: My Windows 10 Pro environment has a nuked Updates Service so I am ignorant if there is a more modern Synaptics driver that Microsoft may pull down that returns the "Use As Middle Click" function to the TrackPoint Scroll button. If such a superior driver exists, then this entire post can be ignored, but please tell me where to get this driver. I do not want to use TPMiddle.

My case: I installed Windows 10 on a W530 and installed the latest official UltraNav driver for the laptop from Lenovo's driver portal. Unfortunately there is no customization of the TrackPoint Scroll Button and I cannot select the "Use As Middle Click" option because it does not exist.

I tried installing TPMiddle to see if I would like it again but it threw some error, furthermore I didn't like it the last time I tried it.

On a whim I force-installed the Synaptics UltraNav driver for the ThinkPad P71, which I know has the "Use As Middle Click" option.

The result is the "Use As Middle Click" option is now accessible; however, the Synaptics Touchpad no longer works because the driver is for a "Precision Touchpad", and the touchpad must be set to disabled within Windows Settings or the Middle Click goes haywire. As a TrackPoint acolyte I see this as an absolute upgrade.

Hope this helps anyone else!
