And if you have too much money, you can buy them now! ('only' $1899 in USA, but €2.379 in Europe)
https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/t ... 2TP2TTTP25

And here is the joke:

Commemorative Features (WOW...)

- 7-row classic keyboard (now with backlighting)
- Blue Enter key with blue accents on sub-keys
- Special edition ThinkPad 25 logo
- Special ThinkPad 25 packaging

I'm absolutely flabbergasted by their Specials! :??:

About 5625 more than they should have made.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

In this thread, so far 56 pages of comments, suggestions, hopes, curses, disappointments, lies, crazy ideas and what not.
And all that for just a modded keyboard on a little over 5,000 laptops?

Well, perhaps like a fool, I just placed my order for one.

In the end, it may be the last chance we ever see to get the classic keyboard. That alone is worth it to me, despite the terrible disappointments in other desired features. We'll see how this goes...

From the past: The passion for the concept and survey participation rate continues to amaze me and others at Lenovo. On average each survey has had approximately 13,000 respondents.

That's why they've made 5,000 boxes only?

Did the selectric typewriter run Windows and require 50 million different key combos?

I will give it the advantage that it never crashed due to poor nVidia drivers or run out of power and lose my entire document.

Pretty sure Lenovo will produce more if these sell like hot cakes. Given the response of the enthusiasts here, I am not sure they will sell so well. But who knows? I need one for my work. I will see how to get one ASAP, and if possible with a localized keyboard. However, given what we get, and given the price, I would not buy one for personal use.

LaptopMag has a review:
https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/lapto ... hinkpad-25
(they probably got an early unit in exchange for the promise of not keeping quiet until the actual announcement)

The configuration is wrong at all. No WQHD, forced touchscreen, crappy nVidia videochip, outdated CPU generation, forced LTE WWAN and no availability of US version in rest of countries. The review https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Th ... 454.0.html has a long Cons list.

I wonder if you’re gonna be able to get a non-touch display for this (thus making the whole setup even more expensive).

I meant as an aftermarket option. Like buying a non-touch AUO panel.

Wow, isnt it so nice that I have more configuration options on my 755CDV out of the factory than the Retro does IN THE FACTORY!

I wouldn't say that the configuration is wrong. What's wrong is that there is only one configuration. Some people will prefer FHD, some will prefer QHD. Some will prefer Intel GPU, some will prefer nVidia. Some will prefer a touchscreen, some will not, etc. You cannot cater to everyone with a single configuration. That's my biggest complaint.

Oh well if it's limited, I ain't spending any hassle of getting it. it ain't any better than my T530 with i7-3720QM aside from battery life. Even at that, i have yet a few years to spend with my T43p over my T530 until casual applications start dropping x86 support.

Well that's disappointing.

Given that they had to completely redesign the keyboard to fit the T470, why don't they offer it as an alternative keyboard for all T470 purchases?

That's wild. How does he know?

And should we weep? I have a TP25 incoming, dual PackedPixels already landed in my airbnb in London where I will pick them up in three weeks, a 2242 512GB SSD has been ordered as well and if I see a number of confirmations of the 16GB being single module I will grab a second module too (I won't meet my TP25 before January, I am overseas, a friend of my mine will pick it up and safeguard from the hordes wanting one once it ran out). I am overjoyed how cheap the T25 is while ticking all my boxes. My PackedPixels will bring the screenspace, no worries there. The status LEDs are a nice to have. But classic keyboard with 32GB and TB3? DANCE! If the mobile Thunderbolt 3 graphics dock promised for the Yoga 920 happens, my little powerhouse is complete.

Yes, I wanted five year on site warranty but I can live with three.

Yes, I wanted four lanes Thunderbolt 3 but I can live with two.

No weeping.

As for retrofitting, people said the motherboard is diff with diff connectors. Ain't going to happen.

I am aware. What I meant is that the status LED feature is merely a nice to have. It's not something to weep over.

I never wanted a screen larger than FHD at 14". The CPU is what is, the deadline was set literally 25 years ago, it is a shame we missed the 8th generation-Pascal bandwagon but -- oh well.
