If this would find its way onto a mainstream laptop, how likely would it be a Lenovo?

At this point I'm wondering if the title of this thread should be changed from 'Thinkpaddres Rejoice' to 'Lenovo will never make a modern T43'.

One can wish.

Someone on reddit posted a leaked image of the T470 on a Chinese website and they screwed up the image sizing so it looked like the Retro Pipedreampad.

The broken keyboard layout is still there.

We should make a "Who can design the best Retro Thinkpad" competition and the winner gets a free T42 or something.

That's a funny idea actually, someone should make a thread 'create the best Lenovo DreamPad' just to see the humorous spoofed retro thinkpad designs everyone can come up with :p

How about "Who can manufacture the best Retro Thinkpad" ? Let's pool money from around the world and get the winning team to produce it.

Oh boy, Hope's team is really delivering what the [self-censored] at Lenovo have been unable to even imagine.
Kudos to our brothers in Real Thinkpads.

The author of the article is quite clueless tho, at first I thought I had landed on some hipster website before realising it was Notebookcheck.

Interesting, I didn't think someone would use my trackpoint photo as a desktop background, but I guess I did make it 1400x1050 as an easter egg for myself as homage to the 14.1" T60p :P. I posted that up since everyone seems to have forgotten the fourth trackpoint cap that was offered ('cat's tongue' and 'eraser head' were the two originals prior to the trio that's sold today). I wonder if people think that's a ThinkPad instead of an UltraNav.

Apparently Lenovo on their linkedin page just posted this fan mockup of a retro thinkpad

It looks like it is sitting on a gurney which is the underlining message here.

And of course Lenovo is doing their own thing with a (yet again) changed keyboard layout and a new trackpoint design/location!
I also expect them to be in cahoots with Micro$haft, there are at least TWO "Windows" keys!

Guess you can count me out for sure now!

I love the location of the Numpad 2 (down arrow). Very intuitive!

And we can count you out now? Not after the Yoga book? :)

I love the positivity of this thread lol. I wonder how many Lenovo engineers read around here and get completely depressed.

One reaps what they sow.

Lenovo's engineers and designers have been making many of us severely depressed for the past five years at the very least.

There is no indication that there are any qualified engineers left over at Lenovo.
They all moved to 51nb working with HOPE.

Maybe someone should petition IBM (not Lenovo) to make the "BluePad", which would use the T43 as a base design but with a more modern design, compact features, and hardcore IBM nitpicks such as no Microsoft (R) Windows (TM) keys or context keys. And the colour scheme would be blue instead of red.

It won't ship with Windows 10 of course, since with the creative update all telemetry and other pesky services will be inserted inside critical processes (as per Jerry Barnacules' Microsoft leaked info).

Interesting developments on the Chinese side, new 3:2 laptop coming out (ripoff of thinkpad logo by the way...). Perhaps M$ makes the new surface book more laptop-ish, and this is a foretaste based on stolen tech:)

Wow, it looks like a Windows version of MacBook to me... it actually looks pretty good!

and whether or not "Thinker" brand name is too similar to "Thinkpad", might be for for lawyers to decide...

It wouldn't be my style of laptop but it actually looks pretty good. With some decent processor options that could be a winner.

Is it the same Cube company known to provide zero support (read the discussion) for their products ?

Nowadays, 1.4 kg (3.1 lbs) is a tad heavy for a 13.5-incher, though with this aspect ratio the screen actually has a slightly larger surface area than a 14.0" 16:9 screen. With more premium material it could weigh under 2.5 lbs, but of course it would no longer be so cheap.
