They could have at least made it such that Menu is Fn + PrtSc or even better, keep the old Menu key and PrtSc becomes Fn + Menu.
This is what I have been trying to propose in the Lenovo official forum many times. Improve BIOS to generate keyboard scan codes for all Fn+Ctrl+Shift+key combinations. You could use Windows keyboard mapping (SharpKeys) to customize keyboard you want. Unfortunately the word think has completely disappeared from ThinkPad design :(
And you think they will listen? Ha!
As far as I know nobody asked for the keyboard changes of the past four years, and the amount of seriously approving users is nowhere near the amount of users who openly voiced their disapproval of the newer keyboard layouts.

One would think expensive laptops would follow the way of the expensive desktop keyboards; standardized layouts for the standard keys. Too bad they don't.

What I see around me is that the average disinterested user who doesn't give a [...] can just as well work with the older layout, but the other way around serious users are handicapped, bringing their performance closer to the low average.

Chromebook Pixel C;
10.2" 2560x1800

That's 360 vertical pixels (25%) bonus compared to the usual 16:9

120 pixels more and it's 4:3, hehe

But 2560x1800 definitely sounds good. Make it 15" and we have a deal (if and only if the keyboard is right, etc)

Too low resolution for 15" if text anti-aliasing can not be turned off. Also I expect something around 13" size.

I just saw "CES" and "Thinkpad" in my news feed and thought that there would surely be something about the "retro" thinkpad in the announcements, but no :/ I guess they are holding that one for the actual CES. Can´t wait!

They have announced a Thinkpad chromebook though, but there is no trackpoint. I think they should have named it Ideapad Chromebook instead, which would have made more sense. This will only take away more of the Thinkpad brands credibility.

It hurts :( Even more crappy keyboard layout and crappy extra-vulnerable crippled OS. Next time we will see the ThinkPad name on this http://www.amazon.com/Discovery-Kids-Te ... B0045H29OY

The Windows version of the "ThinkPad 13" has a TrackPoint:

Yep, probably there is no use for it in the CrapOS version focused on consuming Google ads. Such product does not deserve ThinkPad logo.

I agree with you on the Chrome OS version, but the Windows version doesn't seem to be that bad for something that is considered to be a low end device.

Yes, I meant the Chrome one only. The Windows version actually looks very promising because of 1920x1080 IPS and i7/vPro options. WWAN is missing only.

Is this forum spreading misinformation about Chrome OS? If you prefer Windows over Chrome OS, I respect that. But let's keep facts straight. Is someone confusing Chrome OS with Anrdoid? (They are not the same. Personally I don't care for Android at all.)

Which operating system was called "vulnerable" in this thread?

And how is it that Chrome OS could be considered better for consuming Google ads?

I want to keep this discussion respectful and perhaps even unemotional. I am coming from the perspective of years of running Chrome OS on ThinkPad hardware, and dare I say it has provided the best computing experience I have ever seen since I started in the 1990s. ThinkPad hardware quality plus Chrome simplicity equals bliss! I imagine the ThinkCentre desktop units with Chrome OS are equally good.

There are some things about Google's business practices that bother me, and perhaps they are partially to blame for leading Microsoft down the same road with Windows 10.

I really like the ThinkPad 11e Chromebook because it has no "Chrome" logo like most other Chromebooks have. It is also fanless and physically compact. So I am a little disappointed that the ThinkPad 13 finally adds the logo. Perhaps it was inevitable...

Someone has made the claim that Google would not allow the red "eraser head" cursor input. Why is it that the ThinkPad X131e Chromebook had it, and it worked great? Did Google not allow it back then?

Diluting the Thinkpad brand is in Lenovo's DNA. AFAIK it's the second time they release a "Thinkpad" without a trackpoint.

Who buys a 2nd dataplan for their laptop anyway? :??: Especially on a low-end device that probably is sold mostly to the "what's your wifi-code?" crowd?

What bothers me with the Chromepad:
1. No trackpoint.
- It is not really a Thinkpad without a trackpoint.

2. Glossy material where your fingers are going to be most of the time.
- I have a feeling this is going to look disgusting in about 5 seconds.

3. No real buttons for the touchpad.
- Lenovo should have learned their lesson from last time they did this.

4. Keyboard is in lowercase.
- At least it is not as bad as on the Razer keyboards. (Mix of both upper and lower -case).

5. That screen does not look very good.
- That screen should be bright enough to give me a tan; it is 2016, Lenovo. I do not mind the widescreen in this case since it is a Chromepad meaning it is not to be taken seriously.

6. It is a Thinkpad product.
- This is not a Thinkpad. Rename it Chromepad if anything.

Agreed. That chromebook is not a Thinkpad at all. It looks very cheap. You can even see the 'warping' plastic finish around the keys on the keyboard from sloppy manufacturing.

Note that the ThinkPad 13 Chromebook is not ready yet - they mentioned in one of the hands-on videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7f0pLN89VU) this is an early prototype and the Chromebook won´t go on sale until June 2016. Thats why the keyboard looks quite "unfinished"

Also, who cares for this anyway? Its a model made for educational market in the US. For normal people the ThinkPad 13 Windows *with TrackPoint* (and in black) is the much more logical choice.

Good for you.

Yes, I also have multiple SIM cards with the same number, but only one phone can stay connected at a time. Since I don't want to be unreachable by phone when using WWAN on the laptop, I simple use tethering. I do that for years now. A phone I had earlier would overheat, but not the one I have now.

You know what could happen? Lenovo decides is piece of crap will be the standard of all future ThinkPad designs (same with the ThinkPad edge keyboard at the end of 2011).

So, does anyone know when Lenovo is planning to release info on the "retro" thinkpad? I mean, are they going to have some sort of presentation on stage or something similar?

Things look quiet at the moment. It looks optimistic however that the newly announced X1 tablet definitely doesn't have a 16:9 screen. I'm not sure of actual resolution, hard to find the specs...

For thinkpad classic, I guess they are waiting to secure the screen before they make an annocement.
Imagine they do before, and then they can never have the screen and they need to redo from scratch...

Sad for us thought

Never ? It is not a rocket science. It is ordinary piece of hardware. The only issue is they want it for the same price as the 16:9 movie screens for the masses.

If they just order 100K, they can pretty much have anything made on demand.

Every weird low-volume tablet has some crazy screen, yet they are all made for low prices.

And even if a 3:2 turns out 50% more expensive; it's still not even a $50 difference.
