Re: RetroThinkPad survey #2 of ??
Excellent, they asked about screens this time. They specifically stated that 3:2 would be a cost challenge, so in the interests of "practicality" I voted 16:10. Between the two (3:2 and 16:10) I really have a slight preference towards 3:2, but since they specifically called out the difficulty/expense of acquiring such a panel I voted 16:10. 16:9 is just... No. on all levels.
I suspect they may ask for more input on screens the next time around. They didn't even mention IPS or AFFS...

Re: RetroThinkPad survey #2 of ??
Not so: they had 4:3 cost/production problems, not with 3:2.

Apparently my eyes have failed me for misreading that. Oh well...
16:10 or 3:2, I'd be happy with either as long as we get something with good resolution and viewing angles. ... As long as it's not 16:9.

Done.

I wish they'd separated out the matte vs. glossy and touchscreen or not into separate issues.
If it came down to it, I'd rather have a matte screen over a glossy. That is non-negotiable. But while I like touchscreens, if it'll detract from other aspects, I can do without.

Re: RetroThinkPad survey #2 of ??
Exactly. The one problem I had with that survey is that often two or more different binary choices were grouped in a single selection, and it's impossible for me to accurately convey my feelings, if I have a strong preference for one of the choices, but no preference for the other.Nigellus wrote:I wish they'd separated out the matte vs. glossy and touchscreen or not into separate issues.
Unlike in the first survey, there also wasn't sufficient room for custom user input.

Yep. They must have pulled it down for whatever reason...maybe too many users asking for 4:3 aspect ratio...Bibin wrote:The survey link is not working, and the lenovo blog site makes no mention of it...

Because of the many negative reactions, they may have temporarily disabled it, to make better selections (at least I hope so...)

Maybe its because the survey isn´t quite finished yet, as it will be released on Friday, combined with a new blog post?
Just be a little more patient...it will be out the day after tomorrow....

Why on Earth have they allowed it to go "live" in the first place then?Ibthink wrote:Maybe its because the survey isn´t quite finished yet, as it will be released on Friday, combined with a new blog post?
Oh some of us here have been patient for years now so a couple of days isn't likely to change much of anything...an interesting "glitch" nevertheless...Just be a little more patient...it will be out the day after tomorrow....

Maybe its because its for some internal testing and feedback? Why on Earth have they allowed it to go "live" in the first place then?
You could also ask why Lenovo regularly uploads pictures of new ThinkPads weeks before launch to their servers open for all...
This link was not published by Lenovo.

Huh? And then "internal" suddenly went external?Ibthink wrote: Maybe its because its for some internal testing and feedback?
I haven't given it a thought and doubt that I ever will, but can see no connection between the two...You could also ask why Lenovo regularly uploads pictures of new ThinkPads weeks before launch to their servers open for all...
Are you implying that someone has hacked into their Intranet, found the link in question and then published it on the page controlled by Lenovo? This link was not published by Lenovo.

Well I voted for 4:3 as well (15" 1600x1200) as I've been using this A31p for several years and it works for me better than the T520 1920x1080 also on my desk at the moment. By my definition a "retro" Thinkpad should be something with a 15" UXGA, at minimum.

I don't think we were mean. Most of the criticisms seemed constructive to me.
I am cautiously optimistic that they are doing this in the first place.
You can't get initiatives like this through the corporate bureaucracy unless the corporation recognizes a market incentive to do it.
I'm trying not to get too excited, but if they give me a ThinkPad even close to what I want, I will buy it (so long as they get the keyboard right).

Re: RetroThinkPad survey #2 of ?? **First try, aborted**
Probably the link was found by taking the previous one, and changing the 1 to a 2. They may put it back once it is officially announced. Shame on them for not being careful and putting the page up early
Side note: Why is the posting page huge, with everything nearly doubled in size? Is it optimized for the legally blind now?

I meant to say that from reading the comments, it seems like that 2nd survey was half-arsed, therefore it's for the best that it was withdrawn since its design wasn't so helpful.

Nope, it's a Forum-software glitch, that's taking longer than expected to fix.Bibin wrote:Side note: Why is the posting page huge, with everything nearly doubled in size? Is it optimized for the legally blind now?
