Overpriced laptop with outdated CPU generation, not a big deal anyway.

Yep. Out of curiosity I asked (in the chat) if they plan to have it available again soon. The consultant had no idea.

This may actually be really gone this time, because it shows 'Sold out' and not just 'out of stock' or 'temporary unavailable'.

Still available in Hong Kong and Singapore. Singapore offers the best deal, because for the same price as on the US web site (actually cheaper, if you factor out the tax) you get the on-site warranty upgrade (as well as a case + laser mouse). But if you are in North America and can't get someone to bring the laptop for you, the international shipping will make it much more expensive.

Not overpriced at all if you compare it to the MacBook Pro and the MS SurfaceBooks out there

Hey, here's a clarification of ThinkPad's On-Site Warranty upgrade for our region here in Asia:

(We've phoned up ThinkPad to confirm this a while ago):
If you have upgraded to On-Site Warranty for your country, but you travel overseas, your broken ThinkPad is a "Depot Carry-In" type of International Warranty.
ie: When you are overseas and by chance your ThinkPad breaks, it is a multi-day carry into local repair centre type of repair!

Fortunately we have never experienced a ThinkPad breakdown while traveling overseas--which is why we bought ThinkPad in the first place!

Thank you for sharing this information!

It appears that when it comes to any non-standard services (beyond base depot warranty), such as 'on-site' or 'keep your drive' Lenovo now sells a separate "International Upgrade", which costs an extra $20. It is still cheaper than a full-fledged onsite warranty upgrade, and should make all coverage international. This was what the service rep on the Lenovo US website claimed.

However, the text of the upgrade itself mentions:
Extend your coverage to applicable optional services, including Sealed Battery Warranty, Keep Your Drive, and Accidental Damage Protection when traveling outside of your home country.
It does not mention "onsite". Still, it makes no sense to me that all these extras would be redeemable internationally, and the 'onsite' would not, but it does require additional clarification.

Any chance they'll throw out a T26 based on the T480 architecture?

Based on what their sales team told me in a webinar last week, no.
Question - Brandon
Will the keyboard from the 25th anniversary model make its way to any of the mainstream models in the future?
Answer - Adrienne Mueller
We do not have any plans to do that at this time. Unfortunately just a limited special edition offering.

The last batch is down to $1272.33.

I think this is a fair deal, so I bought two. I have a specific use case in mind for each one.

Nevermind. I sent them both back.

Lenovo only refunded me for one T25, kept the second one and now won't refund it even though it is in their possession.

Tracking number of the return, accepted RMA and all, and they just double down that I only sent one laptop back.

What a mess. I never want to deal with this company again.

Believe it or not, T25 is still being sold here in our region--both in retail stores and Lenovo website itself !
Guess the T25 is alive and well !

It was unavailable for some periods of time, and then became available again. But despite that, Lenovo still refuses to sell it globally. I guess their marketing is overrun by dumb-as-doorknob bang-head-against-wall types.

Too bad. While I'm not enamored of this model, the keyboard alone might - just might - be enough to tempt me if the price was right. But, as it is I'll have to wait and soldier on with my HP Envy as my daily driver.

Unfortunately, I learned of the existence of this model too late to order it.

Can we hope for a rerun of a modern Thinkpad with a mechanical keyboard?
Say, a T480 with the mechanical keyboard, please? (no discrete GPU, too)

You can hope for anything, but that doesn't mean it will happen. What do you mean by mechanical keyboard? There are no meaningful difference in the scissor switch mechanism between the Thinkpad 25 and other Thinkpads. The only differences are the layout and the shape of the keys.

Thinkpad 25 units pop on eBay now and then. It is possible to modify it to take the innards of a T480 (a few folks have performed this mod).

I was under the impression that the T25 was using a mechanical keyboard like the classic series such as the X220 I am using at the moment.

The X220, the TP25, as well as the 6-row Thinkpads all use a scissor switch keyboard:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_ ... h_keyboard

It's not the same technology as the one seen on mechanical desktop keyboards.

Ah OK, at any rate I am not impressed by the island keyboards in laptops these days. I am a touch typist, and I want the longer drive this scissors mechanism offers.

I hope that the T480 keyboard is 'good enough' for use (not been able to attend one in person), I suspect that it'll take quite some time adapting to it...

The longer drive (key travel depth) doesn't have much to do with the shape of the keys though. The T420 and T430 keyboards both have deeper key travel than Thinkpad 25 / T470, regardless of the shape of the keys.

Sheer curiosity on my end: was it immensely obvious the first time that you touched the keyboard on T25?

Typing this on a T520, and I must say that I would prefer more - not less - key travel.

Obvious, yes, because keyboards is something I pay tons of attention to, as you know. :) Immensely? I'd say - no, because not once has it bothered me, not in the slightest.

If anything, the TP25's keyboard is the firmest keyboard I've typed on since the T42, although this may be more due to chassis design and not due to the travel depth.

I very much agree - it was noticeable right away and it took me a few minutes to get used to - the keys feel lighter until you depress them, but there is still noticeable and valuable feedback in the depression of the keys. I have no problem flipping between my W520, my T601F, and the T25 - I use all three for several hours each over the course of a typical day.

Still better than typing on one of the new 6-row keyboards. I'm grabbing a high-end T480 to act as a base to try and fit in the T25 palm rest and keyboard, so I'll be having my first "long term" exposure to the 6 row, apart from work, soon enough...

I had saved this text from somewhere, can't remember if it is from this forum or elsewhere (I assume it's accurate ?) :
Historically, ThinkPads had 2.5 mm key travel (T420 keyboard). This was reduced to 2.1 mm with the T440(s), then 1.7 mm with the T460s. T490s still has 1.7 mm. The only models with even shorter key travel are the current X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga (1.5 mm). Oh, and the X1 Tablet, which should have around 1.2 to 1.3 mm.
How much does the T25 have ? Apple (and Dell) are now proudly advertising 1mm key travel as if that's an amazing thing ! God knows why Lenovo don't add 0.5mm to the X1 and push 2mm travel. Does anyone really notice half a mm in thickness and run away screaming from the laptop shouting "it's sooo fat !" ? I always just preferred the look of the non-island keybords, never mind the layout (which is also obviously better). Must just be me, and possibly a handful of others here, because every single manufacturer apes the Apple look slavishly.
