T25 trackpad

#1 Post by H-Atkinson » Mon Apr 20, 2020 8:12 pm

I currently need to source a T25 trackpad, and Encompass no longer has them stocked. I read that its the same part as the X1C5 trackpad, but just with a different PN. Can anyone confirm?

For anyone else having this issue, the X1C5 and X1C6 trackpad is the same, but has a different P/N. Be sure to get it *without* NFC.

Great to know and thanks for updating us. :thumbs-UP: I believe X1C7 and X1C8 share the same form factor, so the trackpad should also be compatible, but I haven't had a chance for a closer look.

Not 100 % certain, but I doubt that it would work. X1 Carbon 7 / 8 use a different mechanical design from X1 Carbon 5 / 6 (even though they look similar). Notably, the keyboard has lower travel and the TrackPoint buttons are flat. Probably, the touchpad design is a little bit different as well.

What, lower travel still? How many more generations we have to wait till we get what we've been asking for for years? Namely, a keyboard with negative key travel?

Thanks for the tip. :thumbs-UP:

Yep, its 1.5 mm on the X1 Carbon 7/8 & X1 Yoga 4/5 (down from 1.7 mm). Upcoming L14/L15 also adopt 1.5 mm travel keyboards. And you can count on Lenovo to reduce it even more with some next-gen devices... :?

If encompass is to be believed, X1C7/8 got a new trackpad, but it could be another case of "change the P/N and mark it up" (like T25, the X1 part ended up costing ~half of what the T25 one did when it was in stock).

Just as a follow up, the rest of the parts I need to convert my T480 arrived and I was able to confirm the trackpad for the X1C G5 without NFC is in fact a direct fit for the T25 top cover. It looks identical to the one on my T25.

Now I just need to find where I stashed that spare T25 keyboard I got, and put this thing together... :)

Glad to hear it. I also got the no-NFC trackpad, so I shouldnt have issues. However, I didnt get the NFC unit for T25, and my T480 doesnt have one. Its not structurally integral I assume, and I have no need for NFC (idk why I got it on my P53 at this point).

Encompass keeps pushing my order back because there is a factory backorder on the 61++ batteries, and I had 2 in the same order. Everything else shows in stock and ready to ship. If another month passes Im going to ask them to ship the batteries in a 2nd lot and Ill just eat a 2nd shipping bill.
