T25 conversion on A475

#1 Post by DaKKS » Fri Apr 14, 2023 5:08 pm

Has anyone ever tried this? The T470 and A475 share the same chassis. Theoretically it should physically fit if you replace the keyboard palmrest and trackpad.

But will the AMD based board recognize the T25 keyboard?

I think that, at worst, the extra keys won't be recognized. There's nothing "smart" about the keyboard itself (it's just a switch matrix after all).
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

I remember from my T430 days that we had firmware mods to make the keys map correctly. Hence why i'm cautious about it. I know the Intel based T470 can handle it becuse the T25 is basically just a T470 board, but when they designed the A475 they had no reason to add that support since an AMD based T25 was never in consideration.

I think there is no way to know for sure other than to test it.

A couple of eBay sellers seem to be offering a few of these at the moment - European, German or Japanese layouts - very expensively...

Found French and Nordic (Danish, Swedish, Norvegian combination) layouts. Nordic is fine for me.

Looks like the entire kit, for a T470, could be had for around 205 bucks. Might end up being more if my A475 ends up being non compatible and i have to buy a T470.
