Value of a brand new T25?

#1 Post by Segway » Thu May 08, 2025 7:25 am

Hello, I have a T25 in its original packaging never before opened. It is brand new. I was wondering if I should do the very popular (and for good reason they look beautiful) frankenpad mod?
I also have a T480 with an I7650u + MX150 which would give me way desirable performance compared to the T25's internals. My T480 screen is currently damaged but I've heard of 4K replacements possible along with buying a 40-pin eDP connector for it. If I'm gonna build my own laptop might as well go all in no? I also have 64gb (2x32) of DDR4 ram I plan to install as well. This machine will hopefully last me very long and I plan to have my first Linux journey with it.

Does anyone know the value of a brand new T25 currently? I don't see any for sale online and I'm wondering if it would be more cost efficient for me to sell the T25 and buy a new T25 japanese keyboard layout and a T470 body since it is identical to that of the T25. I could purchase a very nicely maintained T470 and new Japanese T25 keyboard and do the mod that way, and if selling the T25 is worth it and allows me to do this then this is the option I may choose.

PS: I know there's a small spacebar in the JP keyboard layout but I actually think the keyboard is kinda cute hehe. + there's a cool factor for it being a Japanese layout.

Thank you in advance for your help, I'm sure the people here are way more knowledgeable than me when it comes to this sorta stuff :)

Within the past couple months, they have sold from $1200 to $1800 on eBay. So ... they seem to hold their value as long as you don't use them.

I'd say that's great for a laptop approaching 8 years old this fall. Maybe you can reach out to one of the eBay sellers (there are two JP keyboard T25's for sale right now) and do a swap.

Good luck. I wouldn't go cutting up one of these.

Thank you, I appreciate your reply. I ended up ordering a Japanese layout for the swap, pretty excited for it to arrive :D
