Docked Profile

#1 Post by Nonsequitur » Fri Apr 08, 2005 8:19 am

i'm the proud owner of a t42 and i just recieved a port replicator ii so i can ditch my desktop pc but still take advantage of the sparkly lcd monitor i have.

i'm trying to set up a docked profile in windows xp so that i can disable the wireless nic (and use the wired nic), and set the default resolution to 1280*(whatever) instead of the 1024*(whatever) that my laptops lcd can handle.

i'm having some difficulty in doing this, can anyone point me in the right direction?

oddly, i had no trouble setting this up in linux. i created two runlevels and two x configs, and would choose the x config based upon the runlevel.

I had no luck with differing resolutions or monitor settings, but you can use Access Connections to control wired vs. wireless and that works very well. ... JD Hurst

I think that you'll find AC pretty smooth.

Please add Location and other relevant data to your profile. Not required, but appreciated.

Port Replicator II is not detected by windows as a "docking station" (because of the pass-through nature of the ports) therefore it is impossible to set a docked/undocked profile which will change depending if you have connected the PRII or not.

I think Access Connections, by default, will always use a wired profile over wireless if it's available. I'm not sure about it powering off the radio though.

As far as the monitors, I use Presentation Director with a custom-made "docked" scheme that activates the DVI port, enables extended desktop, etc. All I have to do is press Fn+F4 and click "docked."

thanks for the suggestions and the background info. i'll have to fiddle with the ibm apps and see what's going to work best for me. when i'm docked, my laptop is closed, and i use a usb keyboard/mouse and the pass through analog to my lcd (no dvi).

Why don't you try hardware profiles under control panel>system>hardware>profiles? Haven't used this in a long time, but it should alow you to set up and then choose at boot.
