Startup Error

#1 Post by hkhalil » Fri Apr 15, 2005 9:46 am

Hi folks, I wonder if anyone can help with this.

For some time now, when I log-on as a limited user, i get a pop-up saying "The automated solution resource file could not be found. The automated solution can not continue"

I don't know what it is and I can't remember what i installed that may be causing it. I'm guessing it's something IBM - as they use "automated solutions". I don't have the Message Centre or Update Connector installed; just the new Software Installer - but it was doing this before I upgraded that.

It doesn't do this when I log-on as an administrator and I can't see anything in event viewer that is obvious to me - just some COM+ error that I can't fathom.

Can anyone help please :) hkhalil

check out what is being run as logon, both in the "startup" and the key of "run" in the registry. you should be able to found the answer.

look in the reg for HKLM>SW>MicroSoft>Windows>Currentversion>Run. There is probably a listing for an ERTS*.exe. delete it and it should stop it from running.

Thanks for the suggestions; I haven't been able to solve this yet.

I'll have a try and let you know.

Done It!

Hey K2, thanks for the tip - that was it!

I'm glad to get rid of this bug, it's been a hastle for ages.

I started off by removing IBM Messages. I thought I had done this already, but there were still bits left over in the registry. When I did this, I started getting a similar error even as an administrator.

As you said K2, there was an ERTS* entry for "IBM Waranty Notification". When I got rid of that, the problem was solved.

Many thanks once again :D hkhalil
