SXGA-display: Windows splash screen is small

Hello @all,

some time ago I reinstalled Windows XP on my T43p with SXGA+-display. Since that I see small Windows splash logo, when Windows boots. Earlier (before reinstallation) the splash screen was large. Actually, I could live eith that, but it has a side effect: when I start my lovely "Worms' war" game, the game screen is also shown very small. And I don't like it.

The only thing which I made different from previous installation: I set in BIOS my notebook display explicitly as boot display. I have second monitor attached, but it's not always on. And somehow BIOS was smart enough to detect it (even in switched off state), but not smart enough to show boot screen on both devices. On the other hand, I saw similair behaviour on DELL laptop (with SXGA-resolution) and with Ubuntu: Ubuntu logo and messages were displayed very small in the center of display.

I hope, I could describe my issue clearly. Could anyone give me a hint, how I manage my lovely "Worms' War" game to run in a full screen (and not just in a middle)?

In the BIOS Display section is a setting HV expansion. Make sure it is set to On.

Update: yes, it worked, but something (in Windows, in Linux?) reset it back to off. Any idea, what it could be?

(Near-)dead CMOS battery comes to mind.
No regular Windows/Linux program should be able to write into BIOS.

I use the laptop since April 2007, and I was manufactured in January 2007. 6 years... is it realistic for CMOS battery to die? Can I somehow check it?

CMOS battery lasts 4-5 years on average.
Measure it with a multimeter (red wire=pos, black=neg), should read 3.0V or better.
