Slow IBM Secure Login
Hi All..
I am using the IBM Client Security Software to login to windows. Lately it's becoming slower and slower.
When I booted just now it took almost 1.5 monutes to "Verify Embedded Security system'. Once the login screen came up, it also too about 30 seconds more to start loading windows.
Does anyone have any ideas? One thing I did notice was that the wireless lan icon now flashes when I login. i don't know why this is but it may be contributing to the problem.
Thanks in advance
LJ

That wireless lan may be the culprit. Try this:
Google and download Microsoft Bootvis, and run a trace. Check the "Driver Delays" graph and see what is holding up the system the most. If it's "Network Delay," then it's very likely that pesky wireless bug.
Disable your WLAN in Windows or from the Bios (Config, Networking, Internal Wireless, Disabled) and boot up - see if it's any faster. If it is, it will typically be 60 or 120 seconds faster to boot.
If it is the wireless, I don't know what the surefire way to get rid of it is - from my own experience, running SP1 without WZC and with IBM Access connections results in no delay, whereas running SP2 you have to enable WZC with Access connections, since SP2's included fix for the issue is most likely located in that service.

Ok... i guess Im half way there. Disabling the wireless in windows speeds up hte hibernation login. but for some reason it stilll comes on during intital boot. i will try disablling it from the bios.
Out of curiosity is there no way to use access connections to keep the wireless disabled unless you apply a profile which uses the wireless connection?

If I understand your question correctly, you can use Fn-F5 to turn off the wireless, but if you use a wireless profile in AC, it will automatically turn it on for you...

This may not fix your problem but...
I have found that if the wireless is turned off via Fn+F5 before you shut down, then it stays off next time you boot.
This is different from Access Connections switching the radio off if it can't get a connection. In that case it turns on again at the next boot.

Hey Guys...
Ok I've been playing around some more and I noticed that when I'm in my X3 ultrabase that boot up is very fast. Didn't time it this time but it's much more reasonable. Can't figure out why that would be helping it.
Comments?
It seems that you guys were right though, the problem is probably because of the wireless lan looking for a connection at every boot. The weird thing is I have been using this laptop for just about a year (bought it in June 04) and this problem only really started recently.
Thanks for the help as always.

Update...
Ok after some experimentation I noticed that the boot is much faster if I boot before connecting my ethernet cable.. so now I am booting withought the cable. I have disabled auto [censored] in AC so now the wireless doesn't just turn on anymore.. I think things are ok now.. Still not a super fast boot but getting there...
