I have 85 processes running. I would love to be able to reduce this number too.
I encountered a problem running software from Rhapsody music service. The first thing they asked me was how many processes were running. When I told them, they laughed and said "There's your problem". They could not solve the problem, so I simply cancelled my subscription to Rhapsody.

study, implement recommendations at backviper.com .....
I've been very sloppy lately, but STILL have only 48 processes running after a major trim several months ago. And I run complex apps on my laptop almost constantly in/out of multiple wired/wireless lans....

I did look at his recommendations, but haven't spent enough time studying them to make any changes.
In case anyone else is interested, Black Viper's site is currently down. This link is to the snapshot of his web site dating back to November 2004:

It's a good amount of work to do, but well worth it. You learn a LOT about your system, and in the end you run much faster and cleaner.rgrosz wrote:I did look at his recommendations, but haven't spent enough time studying them to make any changes.![]()
