where to download service pack 2 or 3

I have a desktop at home that does not have an internet connection.
I need to download a copy of service pack 2 or 3 for windows xp professional
and load it on my desktop. Can anyone tell me a site where I can do this?

I don't know if that helps you or not. Also, someone else might chime in and give you a direct link to the service pack. I say this since, when you click on the link for service pack 3 it brings you to a page that indicates a download for a network installation. You can download the exe file (approx. 316 MB) but again I don't know if it applies to you. It does say that if you have just one machine to use Windows Update.

Also, if the machine has internet access I believe under Control Panel you can run Windows Update. I wish I was close to you since I have a Service Pack 3 cd somewhere in the computer room that you could use.

If you have either Service Pack 1 or 1a as your installed version you can jump right to Service Pack 3. Here is a download link for an ISO image for creating a Service Pack 3 CD.

If you need to update to Service Pack 1 or 1a, here is a link to the Service Pack 1 update. I couldn't find anything similar on Microsoft's website, but I've used this site before. Just burn the file to a CD to use.

Using that Google search also includes a bunch of links to Service Packs for various .NET Framework versions but this one for Windows seems to be applicable:

Note that according to Microsoft, SP3 requires SP2 or SP1a to be already installed. Also, the updates in these links are designed for network installation meaning you have to have the computer being updated connected to a LAN. If that's not possible, then the easiest option I know of for installing the Service Packs is using standalone CDs. Microsoft's suggestion when updating a single computer is to use Windows Update but as you say, your desktop does not have internet access.

Actually, that is not what that means. The so-called "Network Installation" download of SP3 can be installed on a single computer that is disconnected from the LAN. It will also work fine if there aren't any network adapters present at all.

Hmm... that's what I was told some time ago and I believed it . Never did attempt to download the file and try it out on a non-networked computer (had the disks free from Microsoft).
