Have a PCMCIA SmartMedia card reader: XP won't recognize it

#1 Post by civicmon » Sun May 15, 2005 8:27 pm

Hey all, glad I found this forum! hope i'm posting this in the right place...

I picked up a R51 and tried to install my PCMCIA reader off my old laptop (compaq Armada) and XP doesn't autorecognize it. I tried to manually install it but I couldn't get anything to come up.

The part in reference is here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 24018&rd=1

(same exact piece, same place i bought it at :) )

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

ps, no this is not an ad, I just use the eBay link as a reference, it's not my item for sale.

Is the card recognized at all? Meaning, does the laptop recognize that there's a card installed?

Are the PC card ports turned on in the configuration utility?

no, it doesn't recognize the card at all. I didn't even realize the PC ports needed to be turned on! (I just got this thing so I still got a lot to figure out) but i'll putz around with it and i'll report back.

It looks like it's on.. i threw in a wireless network card I had lying around and it started to recognize it... so it seems like they're active, it's just that when I insert a card with media on it, I get nothing...

thanks!
