I got my T43 a few days ago. I made recovery discs, wiped out the partition, fresh installed XP. I then used Software installer to install the driver for the wireless. I removed a few unnecessary programs from services.msc (double checked them all, none turned off related to wireless)

I cannot, however, connect to any available wireless network, including the one in my apartment and surrounding ones. I can see them there, but cannot connect to them.

What am I missing? What needs to be installed/deleted?

Any help much appreciated.

Are you trying to conec to unsecure network?
May be they are security enabled or MAC filtering.

Sometimes it amazes me that people would leave their network open and allow other people steal their bandwidth.

I cannot connect to even my network. i could before i wiped out the partition and did the fresh install. Now, however, I cannot. I re-installed drivers, so I am clueless as to what went wrong

Specify MAC address of the AP in your configuration.

Could you elaborate on that?

This is really quite frustrating... Using neither IBM's Access Connections nor Windows wireless configuration is working...

I agree...I live in a surburb just outside of Chicago and from my front yard with my T41p I could connect to 4 diffent wireless networks in addition to my own...that just blew me away. I didn't dig any further then connecting...but I bet sharing was turned on on at least a couple of those. I couldn't really tell whose networks they were or I would have knocked on their door and told them about it...I really doubt the average household has much of a clue about all this.

Of course, WEP can now be cracked in under 10 minutes with readily available free tools so that isn't much more then very basic security....and WEP is even beyond a lot of people I know in my neighborhood.
