Blue screen issue on a T42 but not on another

#1 Post by thinktwice » Thu Apr 24, 2014 10:07 am

Hi,

On a ThinkPad T42 2373-6ZG, I stroke some key a little bit hard (--nothing excessive though--) and this lead to a "blue screen" emergency shutdown.

I tried to start that computer in "Safe mode" and it seems working.
But when starting Windows XP normally, I always have some "blue screen" shutdown a few seconds after logging in.

As I had cloned the system partition a few months ago to some external hard drive, I cloned-back from it.

The system loads perfectly if I put the hard drive in another T42, a 2373-FWG.

But when I put the hard drive back in the 2373-6ZG, I still get the blue screen problem just after logging in. Moreover, I can see on the 2373-6ZG the "Administrator" account which is not listed on the 2373-FWG.

I assume that on the 2373-6ZG, Windows calls some machine specific stuff, which would be ignored on the other machine. And this stuff probably makes the system crash.

But which could it be ?

Thanks for your help.

It sounds more like your 2373-6ZG has a hardware problem. :(

On the blue screen will be an error code which can be used to trouble shoot the problem. The next time you get a blue screen note the error code and then visit the website I have posted below. That website offers a listing of error codes and possible ways to resolve them.

+1

Run memtest 86 from a bootable CD and see what happens.

Good luck.
