Antivirus GUI is very slow

#1 Post by thinkpac » Tue Apr 29, 2014 9:49 pm

I've just installed the latest version of Avira Free Antivirus on my T60 running XP, and it is very slow. I recorded a video of me trying to click around in the GUI:

You can see that it takes a while to launch the GUI, and some of the screens take forever to draw lines in tables. No other program on the machine is this slow. Any way to improve the performance, or is the T60 just too old for this program? I have this program installed on more modern machines and it isn't slow.

Remove and replace with the free AVG.
(Just in case: MSE no longer works on the expired XP).

It seems many antivirus programs are bumping up the eye-candy. I used to run Avast on all my ThinkPads and used to recommend Avast as well. No more. These days I am annoyed by the ads and GUI. I have switched over to MSE since last year and my laptops all run fine. I find MSE less intrusive, simple GUI, and am not plagued by WTH pop-ups as well! Combined with Malware Bytes plus careful browsing habits I have had no problems! :knock on wood:
