Microsoft no longer releases new updates for XP, but last time I checked, existing updates could still be gotten automatically via Windows Update.

Yes, 2000 updates were available for quite a while after they stopped releasing new ones. I expect you'll be able to download XP updates at least until 2003 stops getting updates. Given the discovery of the XP POS edition you may be able to download old updates until that version stops updating. I would certainly get the offline version of SP3 as well though. Always nice to have large files like that on hand and not need to download in an emergency.

Indeed, I've got the big IT-installers for SP2 and SP3 on CDs for when I need them... as it's incredibly annoying to try downloading them. I may have to get the Win 7 SP1 IT installer if there is one.

I also like keeping them separate instead of having an XP CD that pre-installs SP3 straight away(although I do have one) because some vintages can't run SP3 very well... but SP2 does just fine, and they can benefit from the features of XP.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

and yes. I am a bit of a lunatic.

e of blocking was that I did not have the security features contained in SP3  Thanks to all who responded.
I was unable to get information from Microsoft as much as I tried. All responses from Microsoft were " XP is no longer supported. Update to a newer version.

Thank you Ilakast for providing me with the link.
It worked and I now have SP3 installed. :D

BTW I discovered that my Windows repair from my Microsoft Pro Discs did not have SP3 when I could not connect to many sites, getting message that they are blocked by my Antivirus software. I discovered that the cause of blockage was lack of security features provided by SP3

Their response is the only reasonable one. There was no need to try to get any information from them. All you need to do is launch Windows update and it should get you all the necessary security updates (tons of which were released after SP3).
