Desktop Sidebar or alternatives?

#1 Post by vjack » Mon May 23, 2005 6:07 pm

I have been using Desktop Sidebar (http://www.desktopsidebar.com/) on my desktop. Has anybody had any luck with this or a similar program on their Thinkpad. I'm hesistant to install a potential resource drain, so I thought I'd check first.

I don't have the room for such a thing. Besides, all I want fits well in the Start Menu & Quick Launch area.[/img]

Yeah, I've pretty much decided to skip it on a notebook. I like it on my desktop, but without being constantly connected to the internet, I guess it wouldn't be worth much.

I use SideBar on all my machines including the t41p I had and on my X40...on my desktops I have it load automatically at boot up...on my lappy's I don't have it load automatically since it does slow down boot up a little. I will usually launch it manually after I get started on whatever I am working on...course I rarely shut all the way down so it is almost always running. As far as normal use, I don't notice a major drain on the system...I really can't live with out it as I use it to launch all programs, track memory usage, im clients etc.

The other thing I do differently on my laptop is set SB to show only on the desktop so it doesn't take away from screen realestate when I am working on stuff. I am using the 75 build which I found more stable then the last couple of builds...actually bullet proof so far for me on the TP's with the exception of the Itunes control panel and the media center panel used at the same time...that does slow things down considerably. If using just one I don't have a problem.
