WTF...clean install...NO POWERMANAGEMENT???

Ok, so i got a clean install on my brand new t42, encountered some problems with the "Software Installer"....so instead of calling IBM, i just decided to pick off whatever drivers i needed to get me going. Soooo. I have just about everything up except for

-Fn+F5 turn on / off wireless ipw2200
-Sleep on lid close...I installed the powermanagement drivers AND the batter maximizer drivers. But seems whenever i do "Turn Off Computer OR Look at "Power Options" in Control Panel, i get nothing of the sort that has to do with Sleep or Hibernation.
-Video Drivers, but...heh, that shouldnt be much of a problem. Just pick up the .exe from april update.
-Is there suppose to be a speedstep gui to change various preferences and profiles on this thing? Where do I find it

Otherwise, this thing is awesome. it's probably going to be easier to get acpi functional with Linux that it is with this little bugger named Xpee (heh, linux nerd joke, im terrible). However i really would like to dual boot. I sacrifced my restore partition and default install to get a faster system up. Saved space in the process, and had to waste a bunch of time.

To Sum up, i need help with
-"Software Installer" and the "Invalid Handle" error (if i can get it working, it seems the easiest way to get driver updates.
-Sleep / Hibernation Support (ACPI), seems even after installing all that nonsense, I still dont have hibernation support
-IPW Fn+F5 turn on / off device. This would be a nice feature to get working
-Speedstep applet??

Ok, so i had a post before that got maybe 30views, and obviously, that's becaus e I really didnt know which drivers to install from the driver matrix.

HOWEVER, I've gotten only one thing to resolve now, STANDBY AND SUSPEND TO DISK.

I changed the partition scheme to where i only had a ten gig windows partition. Installed the chipset drivers, Power Management, and Battery Maximizer drivers, along with a whole buncha others. Yet, I'm STILL not getting any option to Standby or "Hibernate."

They are going to charge me to get discs to get to preload state, and are also going to charge me to have IBMSERVE re-image the HardDrive. I dont want to pay for either, and i dont think i should have to.

Anyone else do a fresh install of XP and get the same problems?

This is probably not the problem but have you checked to see that Hibernate is enabled on Windows Power options menu? To check right click the desktop, select properties-screen saver-power. Look at the Hibernate tab and enable the Hibernate option. Good luck...Bob

Heh, obviously. Although, i know i guess you had to ask.

I'm thinking i should just try another fresh install and see how that works. But, then again. I dont see much need for Hibernate at all, but Stanby might be a nice feature.

Regardless, I think my best bet is try try a fresh install, again. Otherwise, just use Linux, b/c that oddly enough has native Hibernation and Standby Support. LOL

Intel chipset and power management should be all you need to get standby / hibernate option. Try only installing these two with a fresh install:

thanks, i downloaded both of those, actually the chipset was the first to go oni the computer after did the fresh install...I think i might just wipe everything again and do another fresh install and see if that helps. Hopefully i can get the rescue discs from cousin.

Anyone know if i make iso images of hte recovery discs and host them via BT, will that be illegal.
