POP/HDD Password screen with "if lost contact" inf

#1 Post by cytexone » Mon Jun 06, 2005 7:54 pm

Hi all,

Sorry if this is the incorrect section to post in - I didn't know which section would be appropriate...

Background:

I would like to input my customer's contact information in the event that laptop is lost or stolen. Customizing the BIOS splashscreen via a graphics editor everytime we assign a laptop seems like it will be extremely tedious. I would like to customize the screen *after* the IBM BIOS screen (the one with the IBM, Pentium M logo, press Access IBM...) - more specifically, I would like to customize where it requests a Power-On Password/HDD password.

Question:

How do I customize the screen where it requests a Power-On password?

Facts:

- I know the old 600x line, you could add this information via the personalization editor. There is no longer a tool available to do this for present-day laptops.

- I know I can customize the BIOS bootsplash screen via this link:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_ch ... ash_screen

This is good for general contact information, and it's not so good for everyday customizations, like inidividual user contact information.

Thank you very much for any insight gained on customizing the POP screen.

Andy

I don't know of any way changing the password screen, but as you already figured out you can change the bios bootlogo. Not very practicle but better than nothing. See http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=436
