XP Pro Networking Issues

#1 Post by phoenix_one » Wed Jun 08, 2005 9:43 pm

I ran the setup home network wizard on both my T30 and my Desktop.

I can from the Desktop PC access my T30 but I cannot from the T30 access the Desktop PC, however, Internet Connection and Printer Sharing are working.

I cannot map a Desktop PC drive from the Laptop, even when I setup my Desktop drive to be shared.

I can do so from Desktop to the Laptop Drive.

When I go to My Network Places/View workgroup computers and I choose the Desktop I get the message that the Desktop is not accessible, I might not have permissions to access network resources.

I have checked the firewall settings but to no avail.

I have tried wired and wireless connections but the result is the same.

Thank you for your help.

I'm not a networking expert, but try this, go into Windows Explorer Tools ->Folder Options -> uncheck Use Simple File Sharing.

1. You could try typing \\RemoteComputerName or \\IPaddress (backslashes) in the windows explorer address bar or directly in start-> run. That sometimes works.

2. Can you ping the Laptop from the Desktop?

I can Ping to the Desktop.

I cannot connect from the explorer toolbar.

Unchecking Simple Fiue Sharing sharing did not have an effect.

I guess the next thing is to check the sharing and security permissions on the desktop drive(s). Start by giving full access for sharing and security to Everyone.

(Once you're connected, I'd restrict the permissions -- on my home network the only security and share permissions are Administrator and the user name I use to log in.)

I am as Administrator on both machines.

I should be able to have Full access, but it's not working that way.

I'll try giving full access to Everyone.

is a password set for the machine? I think XP let you not connect without having set a password for the account.

No, Passwords are not set on both machines.

Should not make a differece since I have complete access from the Desktop to the Laptop.

But I will give it a try.....
