Odd USB problem

#1 Post by rs79 » Tue Sep 20, 2016 5:39 pm

(T61 XP)

I plugged in a Netgear A6210 1200AC WFI USB 3 thing last xmas and it performed better than expected until last week. The laptop will no longer recognize the thing. Bong-bong-bong.

I tried everything for three days, uninstalling, cleaning the registry, resetting memory and vacuuming it out. Connectors are tight and shiny and every other USB decice I have (1.0. 2.0 1nd some 3.0) all work. The Logitech mouse will only use USB1, there are usb2 ports available (I have some things that will only connect at usb2 properly).

So. It's recognized this Netgear Wifi thing for months, now not so much. Nothing had been changed, it just stopped one day just on this device.

Is there something in the guts of windows I need to clear? It seems to spend a long time installing a new driver, 5X what it should be, I think.

Any clues?

Have you got another device to try the wireless adapter in? Make sure the problem isn't with the adapter itself. If it doesn't work on another device then it's fried. If it does work on another device...
