Anyone use UTIMACO Safegaurd Easy?

#1 Post by hkhalil » Mon Jun 13, 2005 3:27 pm

Hi folks,

I have an X31 using the embedded subsystem and a PCMCIA fingerprint reader. I am currently using the IBM client security.

Has anyone used the UTIMACO products. I'm looking at Safegaurd Easy in particular. Does anyone know how much one licence costs and where to get it in the UK ? The US IBM site only sells the CD-ROM and says you need to buy a licence seperatley.

Also, I'm assuming that you need to remove the whole IBM security software first. Is that right ? Do you need to reset the security chip too. If so, I guess you need to make sure that all your files are un-encrypted before you switch or you won't be able to get at your data anymore.

If anyone has used Safegaurd Easy and has any comments or advice, I would love to read them.

Many thanks, hkhalil

no, you don't have to uninstall IBM CSS or clearing the TPM chip before installing Safeguard Easy 4.1. Just read the Utimaco SGE Help before installing, everything is described pretty good and clearly. Take a special look at the R&R and IBM CSS chapters. And just take care for R&R updates, you have to perform two little tasks described in the Help file before reboot (which means clicking the "Finished" button).

I am using SGE 4.1 for a long time now, I had never any problems. It works great, fast and integrates very well with IBM CSS and R&R. If you install SGE I would unencrypt any files because there is no need any more. Price of SGE at www.steckenborn.de is 171 Euro.
