Can't restore files in Rescue&Recovery from CD/DVD backu
Hi...using Rescue and Recovery I created a base backup of my system on my hard drive, and then copied it (using Rescue and Recovery's "Copy backups from hard drive") to DVD-Rs (three of them were needed to hold everything, in addition to the boot disc that was also created). Everything seemed to go smoothly. However, when I try to restore a file from the DVD set:
1. It begins by asking me to "Please insert the final CD/DVD for the partition you want to rescue files from." I would guess that the "final" CD/DVD is the 3rd and last one. But if I insert the 3rd, it shows me a file list that is absolutely empty. If I insert the 1st disc, however, I get a complete-looking file list. (If I insert the 2nd disc, it just gives me that prompt again.) Is this just a typo on IBM's part, i.e. is it correct that one has to insert the FIRST disc, not the final one as prompted?
2. If I proceed using the first disc to get the file list, and specify file(s) to restore, the program says "Restoring file..." and "Preparing..." and then gives me a dialog box saying "Please insert the disc labeled 'Final C'." Again, I would guess that "Final C" means the 3rd disc. But no matter which of the three I try, it's not happy with it and keeps giving me the same dialog box. The result is that I can't restore any files (not individual files, at least; maybe a full system restore would work).
I'm using the latest version of Rescue and Recovery (2.04.0182). Earlier, using the previous version (2.02 I think it was) and a DVD backup set created through that version, I got exactly the same behaviour. (Oh, and in case it matters, my CD/DVD drive is the first-generation IBM Multi-Burner, in an R40 running XP SP2.)
If you've restored individual files from a multi-disc (CD or DVD) backup, I'd appreciate knowing what your experience was on the above two points. Thanks!

confused about R&R...:-(
I have very similar problem as described here.
I made Backup and Product Recovery Discs.
Both are Booting CD with Rescue&Recovery 3 (burnt on DVD)+1 DVD (which I was recommended to label 'Final C' in Backup case).
When I want recover something from Backup, I choose CD/DVD in R&R and backup 'Base' is listed, but after I click to Next, message 'Insert Final C' is shown and there is no way to continue, suddenly medium is unrecognized. Same behaviour in WinXP and hidden-partition R&R (WinPE).
Anyway I don't know how to use Product Recovery Disc, which is not usual Backup and it's not listed in R&R when I choose CD/DVD as a source. Maybe it relate with another selection: full harddisc recover, but I don't know if it overwrites only C partition or whole HDD and I wouldn't try...
Probably it's same as with backup(?) in hidden partition, which is not listed anywhere...
(sorry for my English

There should be several ways to recover your file.
1) Open R&R while in Windows.
2) Boot into R&R by pressing the blue Access IBM or ThinkVantage button, or by pressing F11 at the beginning of the boot process.
3) Boot up into R&R from a Rescue Media CD.
I do not use R&R, so any further help will need to come from someone else.
---------------------
Regarding the Product Recovery Disc's, they erase your entire hard drive (and remove any extra partitions on it) and reinstall the Factory Contents which include (normally) the Service Partition, Windows, and all the original IBM/Lenovo drivers and software.
Restoring from the "hidden partition" erases your C: drive and reinstalls Windows and all the original IBM/Lenovo drivers and software. If you have upgraded R&R, then you will not be able to boot into R&R after Restoring Factory Contents because of a mismatch in R&R versions. The latest version(s) of R&R is reported to allow a selective install of the factory software when Restoring Factory Contents.

Thank you for fast response.
There isn't problem how to execute R&R (I tried all 3 ways), but R&R find backup on DVD but then don't want to use it and asks for 'Final C' disc that must be the one already inserted...
I didn't know how to use Product Recovery Discs, I boot to R&R and when it's not usual Backup with factory content, I didn't see anything like 'this is special way to use your PRD not usual Backup'. I needed some intuitive how-to. However if it's entire hard disc erasing (thanks for explanation) I don't want try...
I tried Paragon Hard Disc Backup and it seems to work nice. I'm a little bit confused or disappointed by R&R, which I believe to be good benefit of IBM/Lenovo...
