ATTN: T43 Visual Studio .net users

I recently recieved my new T43 with a 2GHz PM. I develop mobile applications (mostly Pocket PC) using MS Visual Studio .net and make heavy use of the Pocket PC emulator that ships with VS.net. When I first tried to open one of my projects and run it, it says that the emulator driver cannot be used and has been disabled. Apparently, the Pentium M supports "Physical Address Extension mode" which, along with the "Data execution prevention" functionality in WinXP SP2 prevents the emulator from running, which prevents me from earning money :(

To work around this, you need to disable PAE and DEP, which MS strongly recommends against, but of course provide you with no other solution. Edit your boot.ini file, adding the /NOPAE and /NOEXECUTE=AlwaysOff switches.

Mods, if this belongs in another subforum, I apologize and please feel free to move it :)

i do some .net development myself. mainly just web apps, as needed to fill various business needs that come up. in any case, im now mainly focusing on learning the SQL 05 reporting and analysis services and integration with .net apps.

i always wondered what people actually used the mobile development tools for. do you develop things for specific types of workers who need somethign that small? im just curious what the demands are for mobile apps, on a business scale. consumer-wise, it seems they are dying out (pocketPC, etc), but i can see a use for MDs, and certain other professions.. just interested in what you are doing with it.. is there demand for the skills, etc... you using VS 05 yet?

In my experience mobile apps are very specialized and not in particularly high demand. I'm currently working for a customer who has an inventory system that interfaces with various accounting systems, etc. Obviously it is easier to bring a handheld device to the inventory rather than bringing the inventory to a terminal, so I'm creating a lightweight, scaled-down version of their inventory software for use with a PDA w/ barcode scanner.

I'm not using VS05 yet, I usually wait for a service pack or 2 to come out before migrating :)
