I have a 570e-2644-5AU 392MB Ram with BIOS IUET26WW. I am attempting to upgrade to WinXP, and installing an 80GB HDD. I have upgraded the TP BIOS to IUET26WW. I have upgraded the firmware of my new (2003) HDD. I have tried several times to perform a clean install of WinXP SP2 Upgrade (fromW98se) and I haven't been able to complete the install. I can process the installation and setup except that the WinXP setup cannot load the "installer" for the "DiskDrive", "battery" and "CDRom". When the system reboots after setup is complete it displays a momentary Blue Screen of Death (BSD) error beginning with "*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF889E528, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)" I needed to photograph the error message since it only show for a few seconds.
Also, I can not start in safe mode or in safe mode with command prompt. WinXP just will not start. If I could get into Windows, I could load the 570e drivers and XP supplement but I can't get Windows to start.
I made one last try to perform a clean install of XP using NTFS. I first deleted the previously created NTFS partition and formated 76GB in FAT32 using my Win98 S/U disk. This XP install went on without any errors on install. I installed most of my drivers and then I performed the critical updates using "Windows Update". During this installation I shutdown and restarted many times. The only issues that arose were some typical "Found New Hardware" episodes that were being resolved as I obtained new drivers. I finished up by restarting XP several time with no problems.
After leaving the system sit (off) for three days, I finally got back to work on it. When I started for the first time I received this BSD error message; "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with status of 0xc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000).The system has been shut down." The TP then immediately shuts down and restarts to the same error. This cycle continues until the battery is removed. This first S/U was without the UltraBase used during the install and with a second PCMIA Network card installed. I removed the two NIC cards and restarted with the same results. I inserted the TP into the UltraBase (NIC cards removed) and restarted with the same results. This is very frustrating. I have not been able to install this retail version of the XP-SP2 Upgrade. I heard that XP was the easiest OS to install and that was from a lifelong Microsoft hater. What's up?

Unable to Install WinXP Upgrade on TP570e HELP!!!!
I have a similar problem as this, and from my experiences, this is very likely related to RAM.
From my tests, they seem to be all related to the base memory (built-in 64MB) which is causing this problem. Ran memtest86 on and it generated a lot of errors.
Now I'm trying to find ways to disable the base memory. It seems to be only possible with editing the CMOS. Anyone knows how to?

WinXP Install Successful - Thanks
I seem to have resolved my problems. After running the IBM HDD Fitness Test and on the eBay-purchased, used HDD, I received sufficient errors that I suspected the HDD. I then erased the boot sector and attempted to erase the HDD. Following this painfully long process, I formatted the 80GB HDD using Win98, FAT32 which took 2.5 days to recover allocation units (clusters). I was still receiving HDD errors from the IBM HDD Fitness Test and I suspect either because it is defective hardware or because previous a OS adversely affected the boot sector.
I purchased a NEW HDD from a retail vendor. The WinXP install went without a single error. I installed Office 2003 without errors and everything has been running fine for 6 days. I have contacted the eBay seller and he is replacing the used HDD and I hope to get a report back from him after he analyzes the original HDD.
Thank for the info,
Tim
