cd-rom not recognized by 98
cd-rom not recognized by 98
When I boot up my 560x to install win 98 it won't see my external cd-rom drive. When I type "install.exe" at C:\ it brings me to a program to install my IBM 8x/20x PCMCIA drive but when I attempt to continue it gives me "ERROR: CARD SERVICE NOT AVAILABLE! RECHECK YOUR PC CONFIGURATION AND RUN AGAIN". I don't know much DOS so please be detailed if you can help. Thanks in advance...

External CD-ROM Not Recognized
Have you installed the PC-Card drivers?
Check your Device Manager to make sure the PC-Card drivers are there and active. I don't own a 5xx model, so I don't know exactly which set of drivers you need.
Hope this helps.

When you try to install win98 put the cdrom in and make the floppy external. or ... set bios to boot to cd first and leave off the external floppy. If the 98cd is a full vers. it should boot to it.
if not copy your boot disk to the hdd and then put the cdrom in the bay and boot to hdd 1. it should boot as it would to the bootdisk in the A drive.
See if that works for you, it has for me in the past. I have also loaded the cd to the hdd and run the setup from there after booting the setup floppy, deleteing the 98cd copyoff the hdd afterwards if you need the space.
